He was addressing a mass-reception accorded to him at his home town Mithamain on the third day of his five-day visit to Kishoreganj.
Mithamain Upazila Parishad hosted the reception at Muktojouddha Abdul Haque Government College premises as Abdul Hamid was reelected country’s President for the second consecutive term on April 24 last.
Referring to upcoming general election, he called upon the voters to choose the party which ensures people welfare when it goes to state power.
“Don’t vote those who do politics for their personal interest,” the President told the gathering without mentioning anybody’s name.
He reiterated his request to all political parties of the country to nominate good candidates in all stages of polls including Jatiya Sangsad and local government elections.
“All people of Bangladesh will have to think of it (candidates’ nomination),” he added.
President M Abdul Hamid also asked countrymen to aspire for the welfare of the country and its people.
“Each of you have to put relentless effort to materialize the dream of development,” he said.
Referring to his longtime political career coincided with the various developments in haor regions, President Hamid urged all to dream of future development.
“I am son of a farmer. I never forgot my childhood memories. A man cannot be a real one if he forgets his root,” the President also said.
He added, “I’m President Hamid. You’ve voted me Member of Parliament (MP) eighth times. I am trying my level best to ensure the development of haor regions as well as of the whole country.”
Member of parliament engineer Rejwan Ahammad Taufiq, Kishoreganj Zila Parishad chairman Advocate Zillur Rahman, Kishoreganj district Awami League general secretary freedom fighter Advocate M A Afzal, college principal Freedom Fighter Mohammad Abdul Mithamian sadar union parishad chairman Sharif Kamal Advocate, among others, also spoke on the occasion.
Mithamian Upazila Chairman M Abdus Shaheed Bhuiayan presided over the programme.
Earlier, the President opened works of six development projects shortly after arriving in the afternoon.
