Rupganj played against Brothers Union in BKSP and won the game by three wickets in the last over while Uttara stunned the comparatively stronger opponent- Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club by nine runs.
Rupganj bowled first after winning the toss. Relying on the bowling of Muktar Ali and Nabil Samad, they restricted Brothers to 220/8 in 50 overs. In reply, Rupganj chased it down in 49.5 overs with three wickets in hand (221/7 in 49.5 overs).
Yasir Ali 65, Sharifullah 35, Fazle Mahmud 34 and Mohammad Sharif 24 contributed with the bat for Brothers to post the total of 220.
Muktar Ali and Nabil Samad bagged two wickets each for Rupganj while Mohammad Shahid, Rishi Dhawan and Asif Hasan took one wicket each for them as well.
In reply, Shahriar Nafees hit 59 to set up the platform for Rupganj to win their tournament opener. Along with him, Azmir Ahmed (38), Asif Ahmed (38), Mohammad Naim (22) and Rishi Dhawan (21) batted well for them.
Rupganj needed 9 runs in the last over which was bowled by Chirag Jani, the Indian recruit of Brothers. He gave away one run in the first two balls; however, in the third ball, he was hit for a six by Muktar Ali. In the fourth and fifth balls, Rupganj scored two runs and won the game by three wickets.
In the other match, Uttara posted 249 for four wickets while batting first against Sheikh Jamal. Tanzid Hasan and Anisul Islam Emon accumulated 113 runs in the opening stand.
Tanzid fell for 64 while Anisul posted 47 runs. Coming to bat on number three, Sojib Hossain struck unbeaten 61. Besides them, Minhaz Khan posted 38.
Tanbir Hyder bagged two wickets for Sheikh Jamal while Salahuddin Sakil and Shahidul Islam scalped one wicket each.
In reply, Nurul Hasan Sohan, the captain of Sheikh Jamal, hit 65 and Nasir Hossain accompanied him scoring 48. Along with them, Fardeen Hasan (39), Ziaur Rahman (27) and Elias Sunny (28) tried well to overcome the challenge of Uttara, but they failed.
In the last over, they needed 11 runs. They disappointed scoring only one run and lost the match by nine runs.
Abdur Rashid and Asaduzzaman Payel took three wickets for Uttara while Nahid Hasan bagged one wicket.
