Shahriar, who had been undergoing treatment at Apollo Hospital for heart-related complications , breathed his last there around 1:45pm, family sources said.
He is survived by wife, son, and a host of relatives and well-wishers.
Hailing from Narsingdi district, Shahriar started his journalism career in international news agency Reuters. He made several Liberation War-based documentaries and wrote more than 30 books on regional Liberation War history.
His first namaz-e-janaza will be held at the Jatyia Press Club after Johr prayers on Monday after his two sisters’ arrival here from the United States.
Later, he will be laid to rest at his family graveyard at Tekhpara village in Polash upazila in Narsingdi.
Jatiya Press Club President Muhammad Shafiqur Rahman and General secretary Farida Yasmin condoled the death of the veteran journalist and conveyed sympathy to the bereaved family.
