A Russian worker was found dead in a washroom of the residential Green City of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant project in Pabna, police said on Friday. The deceased Ivan Kaitmazov (40) was employed at the power plant as an electric circuit installer with the project’s Skem Company, said Inspector (Investigation) Monirul Islam of Ishwardi Police Station. Khulna Awami League leader and former councillor of Khulna City Corporation Ward-4 Golam Rabbani Tipu was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Cox’s Bazar on Thursday. The incident happened around 8:30 pm in front of the Seagull hotel. Cox’s Bazar Model Police Station’s officer-in-charge, Md. At least four people have died, four fell sick after consuming alcohol in Rajshahi. Three of the victims died on Wednesday, and one died on Thursday, said Dr Sankar K Biswas, spokesperson for Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH). The deceased have been identified as Montaz Ali (42), son of Soleman Ali, from Durgapur village in Jahanabad Union of Mohanpur Upazila; Tutul (28), son of Moyez Mondal; Ekdil (50), son of Mongla; and Jewel (25), son of Tuzammel from Karisha village. They are Pintu (35), son of Kashem Ali from Durgapur; Akbar (46), son of the late Jahan Ali; Mona (28), son of Sayeed Ali; and Firoz Hossain (28), son of Afsar Ali. All victims had sought treatment after consuming alcohol. Two of them died upon arrival at the hospital, while two others were declared brought dead, said the RMCH spokesperson. The condition of the four receiving treatment is stable, and they are under observation, he added. Acting chairman of Jahanabad Union Parishad, Abdur Rashid, said that he was unaware of how many people had consumed the liquor at the same time but confirmed the deaths and the hospitalisations. He added that the bodies of the deceased were buried with police permission.

Two suspected drug peddlers were killed and another was injured in a road accident in Haluaghat upazila of Mymensingh Wednesday. One of the deceased was identified as Alaksa, 35, a resident of Dapunia area in sadar upazila. The inured is Fahad Mahmud Farabi, 32, son of Abul Hossain of the district city. The Indian Border Security Force (BSF) has handed over the body of Zahur Ali, a Bangladeshi man found near the Gaurnagar border in India’s Tripura. According to the police, Zahur Ali, aged 60, was the son of Mansub Ullah from Paschim Dulna village in Chunarughat upazila, said Inspector Shafiqul Islam of Chunarughat Police Station. 7-year-old loses parents, brother in Savar ambulance fire The handover occurred during a flag meeting at the Balla border in Chunarughat upazila of Habiganj around 5:30 pm on Thursday. The meeting was attended by border guards from both countries, local police, journalists, public representatives, and the deceased’s son. The body was then taken to Khowai Police Station in India, where doctors at Khowai District Hospital confirmed his death and performed an autopsy. However, the exact cause of death and how he crossed the border remain unclear. Locals and Zahur family said that he had been working as a security guard for a company in Dhaka. He had returned home on leave on January 4 and brought several lungis with him. The following afternoon, on January 5, he told his family he was going to sell the lungis and would return soon.

Seven-year-old Fahim is struggling to find words after a horrific accident claimed the lives of his parents, elder brother, and aunt. They were on their way to Dhaka for his brother's medical treatment when tragedy struck. Relatives said he has been fainting repeatedly overwhelmed by the unbearable loss of his loved ones. The Officer-in-Charge of Jajira Police Station in Shariatpur district was found hanging at the police station compound on Thursday. Nazrul Islam, superintendent of Shariatpur police said OC Al Amin, who joined the police station in September 24,2024, used to live at the thana complex.The colleagues of Al Amin saw him hanging from the ceiling in his room through a window in the afternoon and informed others. A Bangladeshi youth was killed by bullets  allegedly fired from the Indian side along Chinakandi border area in Bishwambharpur upazila  of Sunamganj on Wednesday. The deceased was identified Md Saidul Islam, 24, son of Joynal Abedin, a resident of Gamatola Khaspara East in Dhanpur union of the upazila. Sunamganj Battalion 28 BGB Commander AKM Zakaria Qadir said  it is still unconfirmed whether the shots were fired by BSF personnel or Indian Garos. A flag meeting has been scheduled between the Machimpur BOP and Karaigara BSF camp in India regarding the matter, he said. Caretaker’s body found in Faridpur with hands and feet tied Locals said Saidul Islam might have been killed by BSF possibly after an altercation between him and the BSF personnel while he was attempting to cross the border with betel nuts. He was rushed to Sunamganj Sadar Hospital where the attending physician Dr Shafiqur Islam  confirmed his death. The deceased had two gunshot wounds on his chest and stomach and the nature of the bullet will be determined following an autopsy, he said.

Police recovered the body of a 70-year-old caretaker with his hands and feet tied, from a doctor’s house in Alekhaar Kanda village of Nasirabad union under Bhanga upazila in Faridpur. The deceased, Wahab Matubbar,  a resident of nearby Tujarpur village, had been serving as the caretaker of the house for many years, said police on Thursday. The body was found on Wednesday night. Assistant Superintendent of Police (Bhanga Circle) Md Asif Iqbal said that the house belonged to the late Dr Jalal Uddin, whose wife and three daughters live in Dhaka but occasionally visit the property. Farmer beaten to death over ‘forbidding marijuana consumption’ in Sirajganj “Wahab Matubbar was entrusted with the responsibility of maintaining the house. On Wednesday around 10pm, locals informed us about his body lying near the second-floor rooftop door,” Asif Iqbal said. Upon receiving the information, police and a team from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) arrived at the scene and recovered the body. The motive behind the murder is yet to be determined, and investigations are ongoing, he added.

A 30-year-old man was killed after being struck by a speeding car in front of the Uttara BNS Center in Dhaka on Wednesday evening. The deceased was identified as Mamunur Rashid, son of Abdul Jabbar, from Kona Panchrukhi village in Nandail upazila of Mymensingh district. The accident occurred around 6:30 pm when the car hit him as he was crossing the road, leaving Mamunur and another person injured. 3 killed in Gazipur road crash According to eyewitness Mahbubur Rahman Bakul, both victims were injured and taken to Bangladesh Medical College, where one received first aid and was discharged. However, Mamunur's injuries were severe, and he was later transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries around 9 pm. The private car involved in the accident was seized by locals, who handed over both the vehicle and its driver to the police. Body of missing Bangladeshi found in India’s Tripura Mamunur's elder brother, Md. Harunur Rashid, said that Mamunur had been living with his wife in the North Azampur area of Dhaka, having married just six months ago. He had gone to the area for some personal work when the accident occurred. Md. Faruk, in charge of the Dhaka Medical Police Camp, confirmed the death, citing a doctor’s report.
