The online GD (general diary) service in all police stations under Chattogram range and Chattagram Metropolitan Police (CMP) will start from Thursday. This initiative has been taken following a directive from the Chief Adviser to simplify and digitise police services, said a Police Headquarters statement issued on Wednesday. Earlier, only reports related to lost and found items could be filed online.  Police cannot be a killer force: IGP  Now all types of GDs can be submitted online in these areas, according to the statement. The online GD service was first introduced on a pilot basis at all police stations under Sylhet Metropolitan Police and Chandpur District Police on April 15, 2025. The service will be gradually expanded to other police ranges and metropolitan areas across the country, it said. To access the service, users have been requested to download the ‘Online GD’ app from the Google Play Store and complete a one-time registration. To ease healthcare facility in the region, two new hospitals will be set up in Hathazari and Karnaphuli upazilas of Chattogram district as a plan in this regard is underway, said Health Adviser Nurjahan Begum on Wednesday. Speaking at a views-exchange meeting on ‘Addressing Waterlogging in Chattogram City and Development of the Oxygen-Hathazari Highway’ at the Circuit House, she emphasised the urgent need for expanded healthcare infrastructure in the port city.  Sailor goes missing in Karnaphuli River Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus and several other key advisers also attended the event. Patients from Rangamati and Kaptai will be able to get service in Hathazari while those from Patiya, Satkania and Chandanaish will be served from Karnaphuli facility,” she said. Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus on Wednesday announced the official inauguration of the construction of the much-awaited rail-cum-road bridge over the Karnaphuli River in Kalurghat, stressing that the sufferings of commuters will significantly ease once it is constructed. "It's a historic bridge," Prof Yunus said, expressing his satisfaction as the new journey began and it will be implemented in an expedited way. The long-anticipated bridge is expected to greatly benefit residents of greater Chattogram, specially on the river’s southern bank, including those in Boalkhali and Patiya upazilas. Prof Yunus unveiled the foundation stone plaque from the Circuit House in Chattogram. "I have many memories....this bridge has great historical importance. Today, residents of Boalkhali are also present here. Kalurghat Bridge is their much-desired goal. Once it is completed, many problems of the people of Chattogram will end," said the Chief Adviser. Road Transport and Bridges Adviser Fauzul Kabir Khan said that the people of South Chattogram have long demanding the construction of a new Kalurghat Bridge over the Karnaphuli River. With the unveiling of the foundation stone of the bridge, the long-cherished dream of the people of city’s outskirt upazilas -Boalkhali, Patiya and South Chattogram- is finally materialised. The railway aims to complete the construction of the 700-meter-long main bridge by 2030. The total length of the bridge will be 11 kilometres and the width will be 100 feet. After visiting the Chittagong Port, he went to the Chattogram Circuit House, where unveiled the foundation stone of the Kalurghat Bridge over the Karnaphuli River. Chief Adviser Prof Yunus also attended a meeting that discussed key urban challenges, including waterlogging in Chattogram City and traffic congestion on Hathazari Road from the Oxygen Intersection. Prof Yunus handed over land documents for the Chattogram National Heart Foundation to the concerned authorities. Chief Adviser Prof Yunus began his visit to his home district of Chattogram in the morning for the first time since taking office, with a series of engagements planned during his roughly 12-hour stay. Professor Yunus, who left Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 8:45am, landed at Shah Amanat International Airport at 9:22am, Chief Adviser's Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumder told UNB. He will attend as the chief guest at the fifth convocation of Chittagong University (CU), where he will also deliver the convocation address, officials said. In recognition of his contributions, Chittagong University will confer upon him an honorary Doctorate of Literature (D.Litt) degree. A former faculty member of CU’s Economics Department and a Nobel Laureate, his return to the campus is being hailed as a historic moment. After the convocation, Professor Yunus will travel to his ancestral home in Bathua village of Shikarpur union, Hathazari upazila. Chittagong University will host the largest convocation in the country’s history on Tuesday, awarding degrees to 22,586 students.

A suspected leader of an outlawed was stabbed and shot dead at Koladi Bijoyrampur in Sadar upazila of Pabna district early Tuesday. Police have detained Advocate Zeenat Sohana Chowdhury, Chattogram divisional leader of the Awami League-backed NGO Suchinta Foundation, from the Aturar Depot area of the port city early Tuesday. Zeenat, a former member of the Chittagong Development Authority (CDA), was picked up from a residence under Bayezid Bostami police station around 1am, said its officer-in-charge Md Arifur Rahman. She has been named as an accused in a case filed over a clash between police and followers of Chinmoy Krishna Brahmachari on December 4 last year on the Chattogram Court premises. The case, filed with Kotwali police station, names 29 people,  including Zeenat and leaders of the Awami League, Chhatra League, Jubo League, Swechchhasebak League, and ISKCON. Additionally 40–50 unnamed people were also implicated. 12 people injured in attack by auto-rickshaw drivers in N’ganj Hailing from Raozan upazila, Zeenat had submitted a nomination paper for a reserved women’s seat on behalf of the Awami League during the 11th national parliamentary election.  She is known as a close aide of former Foreign Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud. According to sources, she previously served as a member of the Chittagong Chamber of Commerce & Industry and the Women’s Chamber of Commerce.  She also chaired Farmin Group of Industries Ltd and was a member of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA). Twelve people including some officials of Narayanganj City Corporation were injured in an attack by the unauthorised auto-rickshaw drivers at City Corporation Building in Narayanganj on Monday. Witnesses said the drivers of unauthorized auto-rickshaws staged demonstration in front of the City Corporation Building on Monday protesting the move of the city corporation to stop plying of unauthorised auto-rickshaw in the city to reduce traffic jams. At one stage, they entered the building and carried out an attack on some officials and student representatives using brick chips and sharp weapons, leaving 12 people injured. 4 to die for killing child after kidnap in Narayanganj They also confined the staff of the city corporation inside the building for nearly one and half an hours, creating a tense situation among local people. Chief Executive Officer of The City Corporation Mohammad Zakir Hossain, said they carried out the attack on the city corporation staff and students representatives, who were tasked to reduce traffic jam, without any provocation. He also condemned the attack on employees and students.  

A Faridpur court has denied bail to 21 Awami League leaders and activists, in a case filed under the Explosives Act by a BNP supporter. Following the rejection of their bail petitions, the court ordered the accused to be sent to jail. The order was issued on Monday afternoon by Faridpur District and Sessions Judge Zia Haider. The matter was confirmed by Public Prosecutor (PP) Ali Ashraf. According to Ashraf, the 21 accused had been granted four weeks’ interim bail by the High Court, which also instructed them to appear before the lower court before the bail expired. When they re-applied for bail on Monday, the court rejected the petition. Man killed in Faridpur clash Among those denied bail were prominent local AL leaders including Iqbal Hossain Chunnu, Vice President of Alfadanga Upazila Awami League; Motiur Rahman, Deputy Office Secretary; Sheikh Delwar Hossain, former Vice Chairman of the Upazila Parishad and Convenor of the Upazila Krishak League; Nur Islam Sheikh, General Secretary of the Upazila Sramik League; Hasmat Hossain Talukder, Convenor of the Upazila Jubo League; and Kamrul Islam, Joint Convenor of the Jubo League. The case was filed on January 18 of this year at the Alfadanga Police Station by Lablu Sardar, a BNP supporter from the Buraiych area of Alfadanga municipality. He is the son of local resident Idris Sardar. The complaint named 170 Awami League leaders and activists—including freedom fighters, journalists, and teachers—and also listed 2,500 to 3,000 unidentified individuals as accused under the Explosives Act.  

A leader of Rangamati Science and Technology University (RMSTU) unit of the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal died of cardiac arrest in a restaurant in Rangamati district on Monday.The deceased was identified as Jashim Uddin, 23, a student coordinator and a 4th batch student of Management Department of RMSTU.Dr Shawkat Akbar Khan, residential medical officer (RMO) of Rangamati General Hospital, said Jashim had suffered a cardiac arrest while having breakfast at a local restaurant in Rangamati Reserve Bazar area in the morning. 2 killed in Mymensingh after trees fall during nor'westerLater, he was taken to the Rangamati General Hospital where the doctors declared him dead.The body of Jashim was taken to his village home in Baghaichhari upazila of the district following two namaz-e-janaza held in Rangamati.  

The bodies of two brothers, who had gone missing while bathing, were recovered from Brahmaputra river at Ulipur upazila in Kurigram district on Monday morning. The deceased were identified as Ibrahim, 12, and Imran Hossain, 08. The bodies were recovered around 7 am from Paler Ghat area of Hatia Union, around three kilometers downstream from where they went missing, said police. The boys could not be traced immediately despite extensive search efforts by the fire service teams and locals. On Monday morning, local residents spotted the bodies floating and recovered those. Zillur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Ulipur Police Station, said police were sent to the scene. The bodies would be handed over to the family members, the OC said.  

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members have seized Indian smuggled goods worth Tk 32 lakh in a drive at Benapole check-post border. But no smuggler was detained during the operation. A BGB patrol team conducted the drive Sunday evening and seized goods sarees, blankets, various types of chocolates, food items, and cosmetics. Jubo League leader injured in clash dies in Dhaka  Lt Col Saifullah Siddique, commanding officer of BGB Battalion-49 in Jashore, being tipped off that a syndicate would smuggle a large quantity of drugs and contraband goods from India through the Benapole check-post they conducted the drive.
