Asia Cup Hockey: Bangladesh to play Malaysia on Thursday
Bangladesh to play stronger Malaysia in their 3rd and last Pool B match of the eight-nation Hero Men's Asia Cup Hockey' 2022 at the GBK Hockey Field in Jakarta on Thursday.
The match will kick-off at 2 pm (local time) and 1 pm (Bangladesh time).

In Thursday's other matches, South Korea will meet Oman at 11:45 am (Pool B), Pakistan will face Japan at 4:15 pm (Pool A) while holder India will play hosts Indonesia at 6:30 pm (Pool A), all are local time.
Ahead of the big match against Malaysia, Bangladesh team made their practices in Jakarta Wednesday morning.
Bangladesh team, which was placed in four-team Pool B with Malaysia, South Korea and Oman, already assured the 3rd slot in the group with three points from two matches after beating their traditional rivals Oman by 2-1 goals last Tuesday.
On completion of two Pool B matches, Malaysia dominated the group with all-win record securing full six points, four times champions South Korea is in the 2nd position with three points while Oman remained at bottom without any point.
Pool A team comprises India, Japan, Pakistan and hosts Indonesia.
After two Pool A matches, Japan dominated group with all win run securing full six points, Pakistan is in the 2nd position with four points, India is in the 3rd slot with one point while Indonesia remained at bottom with empty hand.

In their 2-1 victory against Oman in the 2nd match, Ashraful Islam and Rakibul Hasan scored one each for Bangladesh to take revenge of their 2-6 defeat against Oman in the final match of the Asian Games Hockey qualifier in Bangkok recently.
Earlier in the remaining group matches, Malaysia outplayed Oman by 7-0 goals, Japan crushed hosts Indonesia 9-0, holders India played 1-1 with arch-rivals Pakistan, Pakistan crushed Indonesia 13-0, Malaysia beat Korea 5-4 while Japan shocked India by 5-2 goal.
South Korea clinched the Asia Cup title for a record four times while India and Pakistan followed them neck and neck by winning the title for three occasions each..
Ahead of the Hero Men's Asia Cup Hockey' 2022, Bangladesh played two preparatory matches in Jakarta.

Dhaka Test: Sri Lanka go to lunch at 210/4
Ebadot Hossain and Shakib Al Hasan bagged one wicket each in the first session of day 3 of the Dhaka Test.
Sri Lanka went to lunch at 210 for four, just as showers began. Angelo Mathews and Dhananjaya de Silva were at the crease with 25 and 30 runs, respectively.
The visitors are trailing by 155 runs in reply to Bangladesh’s first innings of 365.
Bangladesh won the toss in this match and batted first. Six of their batters failed to score anything on the board. But Mushfiqur Rahim and Liton Das put up a stand of 272 runs with a century each that guided the Tigers to a challenging total.

Bangladesh beat Oman to make winning return to Asia Cup Hockey
Bangladesh made a winning return to the eight-nation Hero Asia Cup Hockey 2022, beating Oman by 2-1 goals in their second Pool B match at the GBK Hockey Field in Jakarta on Tuesday.
With the day's feat, Bangladesh not only maintained their third slot in Group B intact ahead of Oman, but also took revenge of their 2-6 defeat against the Gulf country in the final of the Asian Games Hockey qualifiers in Bangkok last week.
But, Bangladesh made a frustrating start in the ongoing Asia Cup Hockey, suffering 1-6 goals' defeat against former champions South Korea in their first match with captain Khorshedur Rahman scoring the lone goal for Bangladesh.

In the day's match, Ashraful Islam put Bangladesh ahead in the sixth minute of the first quarter from a penalty corner (1-0).
Rashad Al Fazari restored the parity for Oman in the very second minute of the second quarter (17th minute) by his lone effort after beating a couple Bangladesh defenders and the custodian to go for the first half (1-1).
AFC Cup Football: Bashundhara Kings to play Gokulam Kerala on Tuesday
Bangladesh champions Bashundhara Kings will play I-League champions Gokulam Karela FC in their 3rd and last Group D match of the AFC Cup Football' 2022 on Tuesday.
The match will kick-off at 5 pm Bangladesh time at the Yuba Bharati Krirangan (Salt Lake Stadium) in Kolkata.
The Group D table topper ATK Mohun Bagan of Kolkata will play Maziya S&RC of the Maldives in Tuesday's other match at 9 pm Bangladesh time at the same venue.
Although the Bashundhara Kings made a good start in their 2nd AFC Cup Football beating Maziya S&RC of the Maldives 1-0 last Wednesday, but they went down in the race after suffering 0-4 defeat against ATK Mohun Bagan last Saturday.
After the 2nd round Group D matches, all the four teams have secured three points each with one win and a defeat,
But in goal differences, Kolkata Mohun Bagan topped the group list with two plus goals, followed by Gokulam Kerala one plus goal, Maziya S&RC zero goal and Bashundhara Kings minus three goals.
Last two times Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) champions Kings was almost out of the Asia Cup 2022, after a humiliating 0-4 goals defeat against Kolkata giant Mohun Bagan with whom they played 1-1 draw in the last Asia Cup in Male last year.
Actually they watched the Mohun Bagan's tornado in the last match, led by hattrick maker Goa footballer Liston Colaco after witnessing the natural disaster in the beginning of Saturday's match.
In the early first half, Bashundhara Kings came close to score on three occasions within first 20 minutes, but failed convert any. In the next few minutes they conceding two quick goals and they never back in the match.

Indian professional footballer Liston Colaco scored a hattrick for Mohun Bagan scoring three goals in a row --first two goals in span of only eight minutes of the first half and the 3rd goal in the 53rd minute, astonishing the Bangladesh champions.
Substitute booter David Williams of Australia scored the 4th goal for Mohun Bagan.
Kolkata giant Mohun Bagan Cub, which made a frustrating start in the AFC Cup after suffering a 2-4 goals defeat against Gokulam Kerala FC, emerged as favourite outplaying the Kings.
ATK Mohun Bagan of Kolkata earlier qualified for the group stage of the AFC Cup eliminating another Bangladesh giant Dhaka Abahani Limited by 3-1 goals in a play-off match in Kolkata on April 19 last.
Asia Cup Hockey: Bangladesh suffer 1-6 goal defeat against South Korea in opener
Bangladesh made a frustrating start in the eight-nation 11th Asia Cup Hockey '2022 after suffering 1-6 goal defeat against former champions South Korea in their first match at the GBK Hockey Field in Jakarta on Monday.
In the match, captain Khurshedur Rahman put Bangladesh team ahead in the 6th minute from a penalty corner astonishing the four times champions South Korea (1-0).
After conceding an early goal, Korean players reorganized themselves to create strong pressure over Bangladesh and scored six goals in a row.
South Korea, which took 3-1 lead in the first half (2nd quarter), scored two more goals in the 3rd quarter (5-1) and confirmed their comfortable victory adding one more goal in the 4th and last quarter (6-1).

In the opening match, Malaysia outplayed Oman by 7-0 goal Monday morning in another Pool B match at the same venue.
Earlier, Bangladesh team was placed in four-team Pool B with Malaysia, South Korea and Oman while Pool A team comprises India Japan, Pakistan and hosts Indonesia.
In the remaining Pool B matches, Bangladesh will play Oman on Tuesday (May 24) at 10:45 am and meet Malaysia on Thursday (May 26) at 1: pm, all are Bangladesh time.
In Monday's two Pool A matches, Japan due to meet hosts Indonesia while India scheduled play their arch- rivals Pakistan.
Ahead of the Hero Men's Asia Cup Hockey' 2022, Bangladesh played two preparatory matches in Jakarta last week.

Inter Bank Chess: Janata Bank take solo lead
Janata Bank took solo lead in the Inter Bank Chess Team Tournament securing nine points after the 5th round matches held at Bangladesh Chess Federation Hall-Room on Sunday.
Sonali Bank is in the 2nd position with 8 points and BRAC Bank, Eastern Bank and Agrani Bank are sharing the 3rd positions with 7 points each.

In the day's 6th or penultimate round matches, Janata Bank beat Rupali Bank by 4-0 game points, Sonali Bank beat Mercantile Bank by 3.5-0.5 game points, BRAC Bank beat Eastern Bank by 2.5-1.5 game points while Palli Sanchay Bank beat City Bank by 3-1 game points.
The 7th or last round matches will be held on Monday from 4:00 pm at the same venue.

The 11th edition of the eight-nation Asia Cup Hockey '2022 begins on Monday at the GBK Hockey Field in Jakarta.
Top five teams of the last Asia Cup--holders India, Japan, Malaysia, Pakistan, South Korea--,hosts Indonesia and last AHF Cup champions Bangladesh and runners- up Oman have qualified for the tournament.

Four matches will be held on the opening day (Monday).

In Pool A matches, Japan will meet hosts Indonesia at 3:15 pm (BST) while India will play their arch- rivals Pakistan at 5:30 pm (BST) in the other opening day's fixture.
In the remaining group matches, Bangladesh will play Oman on Tuesday (May 24) at 10:45 am and meet Malaysia on Thursday (May 26) at 1: pm, all are Bangladesh time.
The final match will be held on June 1.

36th National Snooker Championship begins at Banani Club
The 36th National Snooker Championship'2022, jointly organised by Bangladesh Billiard and Snooker Federation (BBSF) and Banani Club Limited, began on Thursday at the Banani Club premises here.
A total of 143 players from 21 clubs across the country are taking part in the three-day meet, sponsored by City Bank Limited and American Express.
