Chattogram district emerge champions of divisional handball tournament
Hosts Chattogram district clinched the title of the Sheikh Kamal Cup Chattogram Divisional Handball Tournament 2022 beating Bandarban district 22-20 in the final Wednesday.
At the Chattogram Divisional Women's Sports Complex here, the winners dominated the first half 11-4. But Bandarban came back strongly in the match in the second half, scoring 16 goals.
Taju and Sohel scored five goals each while Alamgir and Arafat netted three goals each for Chattogram.
Ocho scored eight goals – the match's highest – and Azad five for Bandarban.
General Secretary of Chattogram Divisional Sports Association (CDSA) Sirajuddin Mohammad Alamgir was the chief guest of the closing ceremony and distributed the prizes.
Area Sales Manager of the tournament sponsor Polar ASM Insanur Rahman was also present.

Sheikh Russell Chess: Sri Lanka beat Nepal by 3-1 points
Sri Lanka beat Nepal by 3-1 game points in the second round Super League match of the six-nation Sheikh Russell Cup Invitational Team Chess Championship 2022 Wednesday in Dhaka.
Bangladesh Chess Federation is hosting the tournament to mark the birth anniversary of Sheikh Russell, the youngest son of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, with the support of Saif Powertec, at its hall room.
IM De Silva, FM Liyanage Ranindu Dilshan and Tennakone Lisara Samadith of Sri Lanka won against FM Rajbhandari Rijendra, FM Bilam Lal Shrestha and Bajracharya Rajendra of Nepal.
Singhesor Das of Nepal beat Kaluarachchi, Achinthya Shamen of Sri Lanka in the day's second round.
The Super League match between Bangladesh and Nepal will be held on Thursday at 2:30pm at the same venue.
The prize distribution and closing ceremony of the competition will be held on the same day at 8pm at a city hotel.
State Minister for Youth and Sports M Zahid Ahsan Russell will be the chief guest and distribute prizes among the winners.
Benazir Ahmed, president of Bangladesh Chess Federation and South Asian Chess Council, Mesbah Uddin, secretary at the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and Tarafder Md Ruhul Saif, director of Saif Powertec, will also be present.

Asian Youth Chess: Bangladesh's Manon Reja shares top spot with four others
Bangladeshi Candidate Master Manon Reja Neer shared the top spot in the open U-12 group of the Asian Youth Chess Championships 2022 with four other players, securing six points after the eighth-round matches in Bali, Indonesia Wednesday.
In the open U-18 group, FIDE Master Tahsin Tazwar Zia shared the third spot with six other players after earning five points at the end of the eighth-round matches.
Also, Warsia Khusbu of Bangladesh earned 4.5 points from eight matches in the girls' Under-10 group.

National Youth Archery: BKSP emerge champions
BKSP emerged champions in Sheikh Russell 4th Teer National Youth Archery Championship securing 12 gold, nine silver and seven bronze medals that concluded in the Archery Training Centre at Shaheed Ahsanullah Master Stadium in Tongi on Tuesday.
Bangladesh Police Archery Club finished distant 2nd collecting two gold, two silver and three bronze medals while Dhaka Mariner Youngs Club, Wahed Archey Club and Bangladesh Air Force became joint 3rd with one silver medal each.

Ctg Div Handball: Chattogram make good start winning both opening day matches
Hosts Chattogram District made a good start in the Sheikh Kamal Cup Chattogram Divisional Handball Tournament’ 2022 winning both of their opening day’s matches at the Chattogram Divisional Women’s Sports Complex here on Monday.
Chattogram crushed Chandpur by 27-2 goals in their first match and outplayed Feni District by 23-6 goals in their 2nd match, organized by Chattogram Divisional Sports Association (CDSA)
In five other opening day’s matches, Bandarban District beat Chattogram University by 35-20 goals, Khagrachari District defeated Feni by 11-8 goals, Chattogram University outplayed Cox’s Bazar by 23-5 goals, Bandanban beat Cox’s Bazar District by 18-2 goals while Khagrachari overcame Chandpur by 7-6 goals.
Earlier, Chattogram Division Commissioner and CDSA President M Ashrafuddin inaugurated the meet Monday afternoon. Vice President of Bangladesh Handball Federation ANM Wahid Dulal and CDSA general secretary Sirajuddin Mohammad Alamgir were also present on the occasion.

Bangladesh women's team clinch silver medal in Group C category of Chess Olympiad
Bangladesh Women's team clinched the silver medal in the Women's Group C category of the 44th World Chess Olympiad held in Chennai, India from July 29 to August 9, 2022.
In this year's Chess Olympiad, the Group C formed with 61 to 90 seeded teams of the women's division.
Albania won the gold medal in Group C category securing 13 points.
Later, the World Chess Federation (FIDE) and hosts the All-India Chess Federation decided to award the silver medals to the second-placed teams in the category group and the Bangladesh women's team won the silver medal.
Head of Delegation of Indian Team, who is attending the Asian Youth Chess Championship in Bali, Indonesia, handed over the silver medal to the Bangladesh Women's Chess Team Captain and National Instructor Mahmuda Hoque Chowdhury Moly on Saturday.
WCM Jannatul Ferdous, WCM Ahmed Walijha, WIM Sharmin Sultana Shirin, WFM Noshin Anjum and Umme Taslima Prativa Talukdar participated for Bangladesh Women's team in this year's Chess Olympiad in Chennai.

Sheikh Russel 4th Teer National Youth Archery begins Sunday
The Sheikh Russel 4th Teer National Youth Archery Championship 2022, under "Teer Go for Gold" project, began on Sunday (Oct 16) in the Archery Training Centre at Shaheed Ahsanullah Master Stadium in Tongi.
President of Bangladesh Archery Federation (BAF) Lt Gen M Moinul Islam (retd) inaugurated the meet in the morning, sponsored by City Group. BAF general secretary Kazi Rajibuddin Ahmed Chapal and convenor of the organizing committee Rashiduzzaman Serniabat were also present on the occasion.
Qualifying round matches of the three categories of recurve events--junior. cadet, youngsters and two categories of compound events--junior and cadet were decided on the first day.

Sheikh Russell Cup Invitational Team Chess begins
The six-nation Sheikh Russell Cup Invitational Team Chess Championship 2022, began Thursday at the Bangladesh Chess Federation in Dhaka, marking Sheikh Russell Day.
All the six zone 3.2 countries of the World Chess Federation – Bhutan, the Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and hosts Bangladesh are taking part in the invitational team chess event.
Youth and Sports Secretary Mesbah Uddin officially inaugurated the six-nation meet as the chief guest.
Tarafder Md Ruhul Saif, director of the competition's sponsor Saif Powertec, Syed Shahab Uddin Shamim, general secretary of the Bangladesh Chess Federation, and KM Shahidullah, vice-president of the federation, were also present.

All teams will participate in the round-robin league system. At the end of the first phase, the super league will be held with the top three teams. It will also be held in a round-robin league format.
A total of $10,000 will be awarded to the winners. The champion team will receive $ 4,000, the runners-up $3,000, the third-place finishers $2,000 and the fourth-place team $1,000.
In the day's first-round matches after the inauguration ceremony, Bangladesh played against Sri Lanka, Pakistan faced the Maldives, and Nepal played against Bhutan.
The second round matches will start at 3pm Friday at the same venue.
In the second round, Pakistan will play Bangladesh, Bhutan will face Sri Lanka and the Maldives will play Nepal.

Dhaka Table Tennis League under way
The Walton Dhaka Metropolis Table Tennis League, organized by Bangladesh Table Tennis Federation (BTTF),began on Thursday at Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Indoor Stadium in the capital
Director General of BKSP Brigadier General AKM Mazharul Haque inaugurated the league in the morning as chief guest.
Senior Executive Director of the league sponsor Walton Hi Tech Industries FM Iqbal Bin Anwar Don, BTTF General Secretary Sheikh M Jahangir Alam and league committe chairman Saidul Haque Saadi were also present at the day's inaugural function, presided by BTTF acting President Khondakar Hasan Monir Sumon.

Four women's group and 12 first division league matches were decided on the opening day.
A total 10 teams are taking part in the Men's Premier League while nine teams in the Women's League.
Foreign players will not participate this time in the league.

The six-nation Sheikh Russel Cup Invitational Team Chess Championship 2022, sponsored by Saif Powertec Limited, begins in the capital on Thursday (October 13) at the sports hall of Bangladesh Chess Federation (BCF).
Six countries --Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and hosts Bangladesh will take part in the invitational team chess event.
Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports Mesbah Uddin will inaugurate the meet at a function at the conference-room of the National Sports Council (NSC) here Thursday afternoon.
Bangladesh Chess Federation organised the tournament on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Sheikh Russel, the youngest son of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, that some observe as Sheikh Russell Day.
Bangladesh Chess Federation General Secretary Syed Shahab Uddin Shamim disclosed details of the meet at a press conference at the sports hall of the federation on Wednesday

All the teams will initially participate in the round robin league system. After the first phase, top three teams will play in the super league, also on round robin league format.
The game will be held at the federation sports hall from 3 pm every day
