International Day of Military Sports observed in Bangladesh
The International Day of Military Sports-2023 was observed in Bangladesh on Saturday as elsewhere in the world.
As part of the celebration, an event was organized by Bangladesh Air Force Base Bangabandhu under the supervision of Armed Forces Division, says an ISPR media release.
Air Officer Commanding of Bangladesh Air Force Base BangabandhuAir Vice Marshal M A Awal Hossain inaugurated the event as the chief guest.
High Officials and representatives from Armed Forces Division, Army, Navy, Air Force took part in the programme.

Caspian Chess: Bangladesh IM Fahad shares top spot with five others
Bangladeshi International Master (IM) Mohammad Fahad Rahman shared the top spot in the 19th International Caspian Cup Masters Chess Category A matches with five other players, securing 4.5 points after the fifth-round matches in Rasht city of Iran's Gilan province Wednesday.
Bangladeshi Fide Master (FM) Mehdi Hasan Parag shared the third spot with 10 other players, collecting 3.5 points.

In the matches, IM Fahad is playing against FM Aradhya Garg of India; FM Mehdi Hasan Parag is facing Manukyan Sevak of Armenia.

Federation Cup Handball: BGB lift men's title beating Ansar and VDP
Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) clinched the Walton Federation Cup Men's Handball crown, beating Bangladesh Ansar and VDP 35-29 in the final at the Shaheed Captain Mansur Ali National Handball Stadium in the capital Thursday.The winners dominated the first half 16-12.
This was the fourth Federation Cup Handball title for the BGB men's team in the seventh version of the competition. They won the title in 2002, 2003 and 2005 as Bangladesh Rifles.
Tariqur Rahman of BGB was named the best men's player in the competition.
Walton Senior Executive Director FM Iqbal Bin Anwar Dawn was invited as the chief guest for the final. He later distributed the trophies.
Ansar and VDP Additional Director General Brigadier General Khondakar Farid Hasan was also present.
On Wednesday, Ansar and VDP won the women's Walton Federation Cup Handball Tournament, beating Tetulia Upazila Krira Sangstha 45-28 in the final at the same venue.

Bangladesh Ansar & VDP team emerged champions in the women's group of the Walton Federation Cup Handball Tournament beating Tetulia Upazilla Krira Sangstha by 45-28 goal in the final at the Shaheed Capt (Retd) M Mansur Ali National Handball Stadium here on Wednesday.
The Ansar DVP girls, which also won the title in 2020, today (Wednesday) dominated the first half by 26-12 goals.
Khadiza of the champions Ansar team was adjudged the best player of the tournament.
General Secretary of Bangladesh Handball Federation (BHF) Asaduzzaman Kohinoor was the chief guest in the day's final.
In the men's group, Bangladesh Ansar & VDP team will face Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in the final on Thursday (Feb 16).
Senior Executive Director of the meet's sponsor Walton FM Iqbal Bin Anwar Dawn will be the chief guest in Thursday's final and later he will distribute the prizes.

Dhaka, Feb 14 (UNB)- Bangladesh Ansar & VDP team will face Tetulia Upazilla KS in the Women's final of the Walton Federation Cup Handball Tournament on Wednesday.
The women's title deciding match will kick-off at 10:45 am at the Shaheed Capt (Retd) M Mansur Ali National Handball Stadium here.
In the day's women's competition, Ansar & VDP team reached the final outplaying Bangladesh Police Handball Club by 31-17 goal after dominating the first half by 16-8 goal.
In the day's other women's match, Tetulia Upazilla KS booked a seat for the women's final eliminating Handball Training Center, Dhaka by 32-16 goals after leading the first half by 18-10 goals.
Meanwhile in the men's group, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) defeated Team Handball, Dhaka by 44-11 goal while Bangladesh Ansar & VDP team beat Bangladesh Police Handball Club by 40-24 goal.

Bangladesh Ansar and VDP team won both the men's and women's matches of the Walton Federation Cup Handball Tournament (Men's and Women's) at the Shaheed Captain Mansur Ali National Handball Stadium in the capital Monday.
In the men's competition, Ansar and VDP team earned a comfortable 47-22 goals victory over Team Handball Dhaka after leading the first half 24-12.
In the women's group, Ansar and VDP team outplayed Handball Training Centre Dhaka 36-6 after dominating the first half 20-2.
In today's other matches, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) defeated Bangladesh Police Handball Club 49-28 in the men's competition. Tetulia Upazila KS beat Police Handball Club 29-25 in the women's competition.
Four more matches will be held Tuesday at the same venue.

Paytakht Chess: Bangladeshi FM Parag beat Azerbaijani GM Azer
Bangladeshi FM Mehdi Hasan Parag beat Azerbaijani GM Azer Mirzoev in the sixth round match of the Paytakht Cup International Chess Festival, a category A tournament, held in the Iranian capital Tehran Tuesday.
Parag played with white pieces to beat Azer.
After the sixth-round matches, Bangladeshi IM Mohammad Fahad Rahman remained in the third spot with five other players, securing four and a half points. He settled for a draw with Indian IM Himal Gusain in the sixth-round match.
Parag bagged four points from six encounters.

In the third round of matches, Md Khorshed Alam of Bangladesh (rating 2065) beat IM Orsag Milan (rating 2308).
Syed Ejaz Hossain of Bangladesh (rating 1952) defeated IM Babula Milan (rating 2107 while Md Ali Newaz Sarkar of Bangladesh (rating 1809) beat Ryvova Anna (rating 1823).
Bappy Sarkar of Bangladesh (rating 1778) drew with FM Valenta Vit Vaclav (rating 2022) of the Czech Republic.
Bangladesh was due to five-seed Cuba in the fourth round match of the tournament, scheduled to begin at 8pm Bangladesh time Thursday.
