Orion Amateur Golf: Nepal win team event; Bangladesh B finish runners-up
Coming from behind, Nepal won the team event of the Orion 36th Bangladesh Amateur Golf Championship 2023 after carding a four-over-par 292 on the second day of the competition at the Kurmitola Golf Club in the capital Thursday.
Nepal's Subash Tamang and Sadbhav Acharya clinched the team crown after carding a 292, just two-par ahead of Bangladesh B.
Liton Modal's dismal six-over-par 78 after his one-under-par 71 in the first round led Bangladesh to defeat in the team event.
Subash, who was in the fourth spot after the first round carding 72, strongly came back in the second round with a six-under-par 66 to guide Nepal to the victory after carding a six-under par (72+66) 138. Sadbhav carded 10-over-par (77+77) 154.

Bangladesh B, comprising Shafiqul Islam and Liton Mondal, dominated the first round after carding 143. They finished runners-up after carding 294.
Shafiqul carded (72+73) 145 and Liton Mondal carded (71+78) 149 to be the runners-up with 294.
Two other Bangladesh sides – A and C teams – finished third after carding 297 each.
In the men's singles, Subash dominated the day's second round after carding a six-under-par (72+66) 138.
Abu Bakkar Siddik of Bangladesh (72+72), Shat Mishra of India (70+74) and Arav D Shah of Australia (70+74) remained in the second spot after carding equal par 144 each.

Bangladesh's first International Beach Rapid Chess Tournament begins in Cox's Bazar Friday
The country's first International Beach Rapid Chess Tournament will begin in Cox's Bazar Friday at Laboni Beach Point.
National top-rated chess players, promising and budding ones will take part in the tournament.
Bangladesh's two grandmasters Ziaur Rahman and Enamul Hossain Razib are among the 100 players who will compete in the tournament.
With the support of the Bangladesh Chess Federation, the tournament is also bringing a good number of chess players, coaches and organisers from all over the country to Cox's Bazar to promote the game in the beach city as well as in the country.
Cox's Bazar Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Shaheen Imran will inaugurate the tournament. Bangladesh Chess Federation General Secretary Syed Shahab Uddin will also be present.

Orion Amateur Golf: Bangladesh B take solo lead after first round
The Bangladesh B team of Shafiqul Islam and Liton Mondal took the solo lead in the men's team event of the Orion 36th Bangladesh Amateur Golf Championship 2023 Wednesday, scoring 143 after the first round on the first day at the Kurmitola Golf Club.
The South Korean team scored 145 and the Indian team 147.
The Bangladesh A team finished in the fifth spot, scoring 150. The Bangladesh C team finished in the sixth spot, scoring 154.
In the men's singles, Arav D Shah of Australia and Shat Mishra of India topped the list making two under par 70 each.
Liton Mondal of Bangladesh and Beonggu Kim of South Korea finished in the third spot with one under par 71.

Orion Group 36th Bangladesh Amateur Golf begins Wednesday
The Orion Group 36th Bangladesh Amateur Golf Championship 2023, will begin Wednesday at the home of Bangladeshi golf Kurmitola Golf Club in the capital.
Bangladesh Golf Federation Senior Vice president Major General Md Zahirul Islam will inaugurate the four-day tournament Tuesday at 3:30pm at the Kurmitola Golf Club.
Leading golfers from Australia, South Africa, India, Malaysia, Indonesia, Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh will take part in the tournament.
The closing ceremony of the tournament will be held on March 11 at 7pm at the Kurmitola Golf Club.

Dhaka Club Tennis: Police Officers Club emerge men's team event champions
Police Officers Tennis Club clinched the men's team event title of the Dhaka Club President's Cup Tennis Tournament' 2023 title beating Dhaka Club Limited in the final held at the Dhaka Club Tennis court here on Saturday.
Hosts Dhaka Club Limited finished runners-up in the men's team.
State Minister for Shipping Khalid Muhammad Chowdhury witnessed the final as the chief guest and later he distributed the prize prizes among the winners at a function chaired by Dhaka Club president Khandaker Moshiuzzaman Romel.

Youth Games Handball: Rangpur Div clinch women's title beating Dhaka Div by 30-17 goal
Rangpur Division clinched the Women's Handball title of the Sheikh Kamal 2nd Bangladesh Youth Games' 2023 beating Dhaka Division by 30-17 goal in the final at Shaheed Capt (retd) M Monsur Ali National Handball Stadium in Paltan area of the capital on Tuesday.
Senior Secretary to the Home Ministry M Aminul Islam Khan witnessed the day's final as the chief guest and later he distributed the medals. General Secretary of Bangladesh Handball Federation Asaduzzaman Kohinoor was also present on the occasion.
Champions Rangpur Division earned the event's gold medal, Dhaka Division won the silver while Rajshahi Division took the bronze medal.

Earlier in the semifinals, Rangpur Division eliminated Rajshahi Division beating them by 34-11 goal while Dhaka Division reached final defeating Khulna Division by 20-10 goal.

Journey of Para Archery Bangladesh begins
Para Archery Bangladesh, a new sports federation for physically disabled archers under the initiative of the National Paralympic Committee, began its journey through a launching ceremony at a local hotel Monday.
State Minister for Youth and Sports M Zahid Ahsan Russell inaugurated the campaign in Bangladesh as the chief guest to open the door to the international arena for the country's physically disabled archers.
Russell said the government is constructing a separate stadium for the talented disabled sportsmen near the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban on 4.16 acres of land at the cost of Tk14 crore.

Scholastica, Rajuk, Shaheed Smrity win HSBC-Mayor's Cup School Badminton titles
Scholastica and Shaheed Police Smrity College won the titles of the HSBC-Mayor's Cup School Badminton 2023 in the boys' and girls' singles game and Rajuk Uttara Model College won the champion's title in the boys' and girls' doubles matches Saturday after a three-day competition.
The tournament, held at Banani Kamal Ataturk Playground in the capital, saw the participation of badminton players of grades 9-12 from 19 schools and colleges in the city.
At the prize-giving ceremony, Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Atiqul Islam said: "Educational institutions must place equal importance on sports and culture along with studies. I'd like to thank HSBC for the initiative."
HSBC Bangladesh CEO Md Mahbub ur Rahman said: "With the participation of 108 young players from 19 schools, this three-day tournament is reflective of the families' and thereby the society's commitment towards healthy living, physical wellness and community engagement."

2nd Youth Games: Chattogram, Dhaka, Khulna, Rajshahi make semi-finals of girls' hockey
Chattogram, Dhaka, Khulna, and Rajshahi divisions reached the semifinals of the girls' hockey of the Sheikh Kamal 2nd Bangladesh Youth Games 2023 after winning their matches at the Maulana Bhashani National Hockey Stadium in the capital Sunday.
Chattogram Division crushed Barishal Division 8-0 and Dhaka outplayed Sylhet 8-1 in today's last two matches.
Earlier in the day's first match, Khulna beat Rangpur 5-4 in the penalty shootout as the match ended 4-4 after regular time.
In the day's second match, Rajshahi defeated Mymensingh 3-1 in the penalty shootout as the match ended 1-1 after regular time.
Four boys' group matches will be held Monday at the same venue.

2nd Youth Games: Neer, Alo win gold medals in blitz chess
Candidate Master (CM) Manon Reza Neer of Dhaka Division and Nusrat Jahan Alo of Chattogram Division won gold medals in blitz chess of the Sheikh Kamal 2nd Bangladesh Youth Games 2023 Sunday.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the week-long competition in the evening at the Bangladesh Army Stadium in the capital's Banani.
Four thousand athletes, aged under 17, are taking part in the final round of the Games for 193 gold, 193 silver and 287 bronze medals. They qualified from district-level competitions.
CM Manon scooped up the gold medal in the boys' blitz chess today; Nusrat clinched the gold medal in the girls' blitz chess.
The matches were held at the Chess Federation.

CM Manon earned 6.5 points in seven matches to clinch the title. CM Sakline Mustafa Sajid of Rajshahi Division won the silver medal after securing six points. Mohammed Saker Ullah earned the bronze medal with five points.
Nusrat won the gold medal, securing seven points from as many matches. Omnia Binte Yusuf Lubaba of Chattogram bagged the silver medal while Maiesha Mahzabin Tisha earned the bronze medal.
In the boys' blitz chess, 16 players, two each from eight divisions, participated in the event.
Another 16 players, two players each from eight divisions, took part in the girls' blitz chess event, based on a seven-round Swiss-system tournament.
After the day's competitions, Chattogram Division earned two gold, two silver and one bronze medals in chess.
Dhaka Division earned two gold, one silver and one bronze medals.
