Bangladesh Men's Hockey team will play favorite Pakistan in their last Pool A match of the U-18 Asia Cup Hockey Tuesday (July 8) morning in the Chinese city of Dazhou to decide the Pool A champions. Earlier, Bangladesh team secured the semifinal berth in the Men’s Junior Asia Cup   from Pool A beating hosts China by 5-2 goals in their 3rd group match on Sunday. Bangladesh men’s team made a good start in the Asian meet beating Hong Kong, China by 3-0 goals in the first match last Thursday and consolidated their claim for the semifinal berth crushing Sri Lanka by 13-0 goals in their 2nd match last Saturday. After the 3rd consecutive victory, Bangladesh team dominated the Pool A with an all win record securing full nine points from straight three group matches while Pakistan followed Bangladesh collecting full six points from straight two matches. U-18 Asia Cup Hockey: Bangladesh Men’s team earns 2nd consecutive victory crushing Sri Lanka 13-0 In Pool B, Japan men’s team dominated the group securing 12 points from four matches while Malaysia followed them with nine points from four outings. In Sunday’s 3rd Pool A match, Ismail Hosen struck twice for Bangladesh in the 7th and 43rd minutes, Bishal Ahmed, Jony Islam and Amit Hasan scored one each for Bangladesh in the 7th, 39th and 45th minutes ---four of which were field goals and the remaining one from a penalty corner. Hosts China scored twice, one in each half, first in the 38th and 2nd in the 53rd minute, both from penalty corners. Bangladesh men's team put in 11-team Pool A with Pakistan, China, Sri Lanka and Hong Kong, China.

Bangladesh Men's Hockey teams earned 2nd consecutive victory in the U-18 Asia Cup Hockey crushing Sri Lanka by 13-0 goals in their 2nd match in the Chinese city of Dazhou on Saturday. Bangladesh men’s team, which made a good start in the Asian Junior meet beating Hong Kong, China by 3-0 goals at the same venue last Thursday, today (Saturday) dominated the first half (2nd quarter) by 8-0 goals. U-18 Asia Cup Hockey: Bangladesh beat Hong Kong, China by 3-0 goals in opening match Captain Mohammad Abdullah and Ismail Hosen made hattricks scoring four and three goals respectively, Din Islam and Sajedul Sajed struck two goals each while Bishal Ahmed and Mohammad Mehedi scored one each for Bangladesh. In the Women’s U-18 Asia Cup, Bangladesh team defeated Uzbekistan by 3-0 goals at the same venue on Saturday. After barren first quarter, Kona Akhter scored twice, twinkling of an eye in the 30th minute while Airin  Riya scored the other goal in the 28th minute.         Bangladesh women’s team, which was placed in the eight–team Pool A of the Asia Cup with stronger Japan, Uzbekistan and Hong Kong, China, made a frustrating start losing to stronger Japan by 0-11 goals in their first match on Friday.  

Liverpool players joined family and friends for the funeral of their teammate Diogo Jota and his brother on Saturday, two days after the siblings died in a car crash in Spain. Liverpool captain Virgil Van Dijk arrived carrying a red floral arrangement in the shape of a soccer shirt with Jota’s No. 20 in white. Liverpool teammate Andrew Robertson carried a similar arrangement with the No. 30, the number worn by Jota’s brother, André Silva, who played for Portuguese club Penafiel. The service was held at Igreja Matriz church in the Portuguese town of Gondomar, where Jota had a home. Church bells pealed at 11:00 am local time as the funeral started. Pallbearers carried the caskets of both brothers from a chapel next door and into the church. Relatives and hundreds of friends and acquaintances, including players of the local Gondomar FC where Jota started playing at age 9, then followed. Portugal's national team coach Roberto Martínez and several top Portuguese players also attended, including Manchester City duo Bernardo Silva and Rúben Dias and Manchester United's Bruno Fernándes. The bishop of Porto, Manuel Linda, led the funeral mass. The church was filled to capacity and a couple of dozen people followed the service via loudspeaker from outside. Afterwards, the coffins were carried to the cemetery next to the church. FIFA honors Diogo Jota and brother before Club World Cup matches Jota, 28, and the 25-year-old Silva were found dead near Zamora in northwestern Spain early Thursday after the Lamborghini they were driving crashed on an isolated stretch of highway just after midnight on Thursday and burst into flames. The brothers were reportedly heading to catch a boat from northern Spain to go to England where Jota was to rejoin with Liverpool after a summer break. Spanish police are investigating the cause of the crash, which did not involve another vehicle, they said. They said they believe it could have been caused by a blown tire. Their bodies were repatriated to Portugal after being identified by the family. A wake was held for them on Friday. Jota’s death occurred two weeks after he married long-time partner Rute Cardoso while on vacation from a long season where he helped Liverpool win the Premier League. The couple had three children, the youngest born last year. Their loss led to an outpouring of condolences from the soccer world and Portuguese officials.

Amith Hasan scored the remaining goal for Bangladesh in the 43rd minute, also from a penalty corner (3-0). AHF Cup Hockey: Bangladesh earn 3rd consecutive victory beating Thailand 2-1 Bangladesh women’s team, which was placed in the eight–team Pool A of the Asia Cup with stronger Japan, Uzbekistan and Hong Kong, China,will start their campaign taking on stronger Japan on Friday. Two top teams from each of the groups will qualify for the next round and two top teams of the round will play in the final.

Bangladesh Men's and Women's Hockey teams will fly China Monday (June 30) night to participate in the U-18 Asia Cup Hockey beginning in the Chinese city of Dazhou on July 3. In the eight team Women's Asia Cup, Bangladesh team, which  put in Pool A with stronger Japan, Uzbekistan and Hong Kong China, will start their campaign taking on Japan on July 4 Hosts China, Chinese Taipei, Sri Lanka and Kazakhstan placed in Pool B. Two top teams from each of the groups will qualify for the next round and two top teams of the round will play in the final. Bangladesh men's team, which was also put in Pool A with Pakistan, China, Sri Lanka and Hong Kong,China in the 11-team men's Asia Cup, will play Hong Kong,China in the inaugural match on July 3. Bangladesh Women’s Football team will start their campaign in the four-team Group C of the AFC Women's Asian Cup Australia’ 2026 Qualifiers taking on upper ranked Bahrain in Myanmar capital Yangon on Sunday (June 20). The match will kick-off at 6:30 pm Bangladesh time at the Thuwunna Stadium in Yangon. Bangladesh Women’s team, which clinched the SAFF Women’s title for the 2nd consecutive times, has been placed in Group C of the Asian tournament along with upper ranked Myanmar, Bahrain and Turkmenistan. In the remaining Group C matches, will play hosts Myanmar on July 2 at 3:30 pm (BST) and Turkmenistan on July 5 at 6:30 pm (BST), also at the Thuwunna Stadium in Yangon. The champion team of the four-team Group C will earn the rights to play in the final round of the AFC Women’s Asian Cup to be held in Australia next year Ahead of the Sunday’s vital match, Bangladesh women’s team made their final preparation session Saturday morning at Yangon Training Field-5 from 7 am to 8 am focusing on tactical works, set pieces and metal readiness. The Olympic Day’2025, the founding anniversary of International Olympic Committee (IOC), organized by Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA),  was observed in the capital and the seven other divisional headquarters of the country in a benefiting manner on Tuesday (June 24). BOA President and Chief of Bangladesh Army General Waker-Uz- Zaman inaugurated the day’s program through a ceremonial “Olympic Day Run” releasing colorful balloons Tuesday morning at the Bangladesh Shisu Academy premises in Ramna. The Olympic Day run started from Bangladesh Shisu Academy in the morning and concluded at the National Stadium in Dhaka after passing through Shikka Bhaban, Bangladesh Secretariat, Zero point and GPO areas. Olympic Day to be observed in capital, seven divisional headquarters on Tuesday through ceremonial rallies A large number of sportsmen, sports organizers, coaches, trainers, officials of Sports Ministry, National Sports Council (NSC), Bangladesh Olympic Association, different Sports Federations, Associations, Clubs, BKSP, Army, Navy. Air Force, BGB, Police, Ansar & VDP, student of different schools and colleges and the sports enthusiastic peoples took part in the day’s grand rally. On completion of the rally, certificates were districted among the all participants.  The day’s closing function started through hoisting of different flags. BOA President General Waker-Uz-Zaman hoisted the national flag, BOA Secretary General Syed Shaheed  Reza hoisted the IOC flag, Convener of Olympic Day Organizing Committee and BOA Deputy Secretary General Ashiqur Rahman Miku  lifted the BOA flag on the occasion. The chief guest distributed certificates among the Bangladeshi athletes, who participated in the Olympic Games at the function.

France’s top financial watchdog has provided the first official estimate of public spending linked to the 2024 Paris Olympics, placing the overall figure at nearly six billion euros ($6.8 billion). In a preliminary report released Monday, the Cour des Comptes (Court of Auditors) outlined that €2.77 billion has been allocated for organizing the Games, while €3.19 billion has gone toward infrastructure investments. They pointed out that some of the expenditures included were made prior to the event and will continue to benefit the country long after, meaning they should not be solely attributed to the Olympics. They also criticized the inclusion of long-standing infrastructure projects in the Games’ financial assessment, calling it unjustified. “The Court has avoided addressing the only question that truly matters for public debate: how much public spending would have been avoided if the Games were not held in Paris?” said Tony Estanguet, former head of the Paris 2024 organizing committee. He further argued that the actual amount of public money exclusively tied to the Games is far lower than the six billion euros cited by the Court, estimating it at no more than €2 billion. Estanguet also highlighted that the expected economic benefits from the Games are projected to be three to five times higher than that figure. Italy's Olympic committee urges to halt sports events for Pope Francis’ funeral The Cour des Comptes clarified that its findings are based on available data as of March 31, 2025, and do not represent final conclusions. The report does not assess the economic impact, potential tax revenues, or tax breaks related to the event due to a lack of available information. In its statement, the Court expressed dissatisfaction with tax authorities for not providing an overall estimate of tax-related expenditures and urged the government to conduct such an evaluation without delay.
