"On behalf of the Interim Government of Bangladesh, I extend my deepest congratulations to you all for being recognized with the prestigious 2025 United States Secretary of State’s International Women of Courage (IWOC) Award," he said in a message to the Resilient and Courageous July Konnya (July Girls/Women).
This year, women student protest leaders of Bangladesh from the July uprising will be recognized with Madeleine Albright Honorary (IWOC) Group Award.

"As leaders of the protest movement, you stood not only as symbols of resistance but as embodiments of hope for a nation in turmoil," he said.

He said their strength, resilience, and determination continue to inspire countless individuals and communities, both within Bangladesh and globally.
"Your selfless efforts are a reminder to all of us that the pursuit of justice is never easy, but it is always worthwhile," Dr Yunus said.

“Women Student Protest Leaders of Bangladesh”
A valiant group of women were key drivers in the student protest movement against violent repression in Bangladesh in July-August 2024, said the US Department of State.
They demonstrated extraordinary bravery, including standing between security forces and male protestors in spite of threats and violence.
When male counterparts were arrested, these women found innovative ways to continue communication and lead the protests, defying censorship efforts, even during the complete shutdown of the internet.
The bravery and selflessness of these women amid uncertainty was the very definition of courage, said the US government.
On Tuesday (April 1), US, Secretary of State Marco Rubio and First Lady Melania Trump will host the annual International Women of Courage (IWOC) Awards ceremony at the Department of State.
Now in its 19th year, the Secretary of State’s IWOC Award recognizes women from around the world who have demonstrated exceptional courage, strength, and leadership – often at great personal risk and sacrifice.
Since 2007, the Department of State has recognized more than 200 women from over 90 countries with the IWOC Award.
U.S. diplomatic missions overseas nominate one woman of courage from their respective host countries, and finalists are selected and approved by senior Department officials.
Following the IWOC ceremony, the awardees will participate in an International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) and additional programming in Los Angeles.
