BNP on Sunday alleged that the Covid situation in the country has taken a terrible turn due to the government’s indifference, failure and wrong policies.
In a statement, party secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said, “People are dying for lack of treatment and vaccine while the unplanned lockdown enforced by the government is jeopardising the lives of low-income people.”
He said many needy people are starving for lack of food and money. “Even, some people are choosing the path of suicide facing such a great difficulty.”

The BNP leader also alleged that the government has been sending BNP leaders and activists to jail by arresting them in ‘false’ and ‘fictitious’ cases to divert people’s attention to a different direction from the awful Covid situation.
He issued the statement protesting the arrest of Jatiyatabadi Swechchasebak Dal vice president Jamal Hossain Talukder from his Khulna residence.
Fakhrul said the arrest of Jamal is a continuation of the government’s repressive acts against BNP leaders and activists. “The government is trampling on human dignity, humanity and civil liberties only to perpetuate one-party rule.”

He said the current Awami League government has become even more desperate amid the coronavirus to suppress the leaders and activists of BNP and its associate bodies by implicating them in ‘false’ cases.
The BNP leader said the arrest of opposition leaders and activists and snatching people’s democratic rights have become a routine work of the current regime.
He demanded the government release Jamal immediately withdrawing the false case filed against him.
