Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Secretary General Anda Filip, leading a delegation, visited the July Mass Uprising Memorial Museum at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the capital on Monday.

The IPU Secretary General and her delegation were welcomed by the museum's Director General upon their arrival.

The IPU delegation later visited different galleries and exhibitions of the museum and closely observed photographs, documents, memorabilia, documentaries and other historical artefacts preserved there depicting various stages of the 2024 July Mass Uprising.

During the visit, they also learned about the background and chronology of the July Mass Uprising, as well as the participation of students, people and anti-fascist political parties in the movement.

The delegation was also briefed on enforced disappearances, killings and political repression allegedly committed during the previous government, suppression of dissent and other events that preceded and took place during the July uprising.

At the end of the visit, Anda Filip signed the museum's visitors' book, said a Parliament Secretariat release.

Three lawmakers Jahrat Adib Chowdhury, Mansura Akter and Dr Sunsila Jabrin, and Parliament Secretary Barrister Md Golam Sorwar Bhuiyan were present during the visit.

Earlier, the IPU Secretary General visited the Bangladesh Parliament, where she toured several important areas of the Parliament complex and attended meetings with important persons, including Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad and Leader of the Opposition Dr Shafiqur Rahman.
