Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will inaugurate the modernised historic Osmani Udyan and a July Memorial on October 19, State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam said on Sunday.
The park will be opened to the public following the inauguration ceremony and a public gathering.
Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has spent around Tk 50 crore on the renovation of the park.
Mir Shahe Alam disclosed the information at a meeting on the inauguration of the modernised Osmani Udyan and the newly constructed July Memorial at the meeting room of the Secretariat in the capital.
The State Minister said city dwellers would finally be able to use the scenic park after it had remained closed for nearly 10 years.
A special July Memorial has been built at Osmani Udyan in memory of the July martyrs and the brave fighters of the July uprising.
It will give visitors an opportunity to recall the historic July-August uprising and the sacrifices of those who lost their lives, he said.
Mir Shahe Alam further said the newly redesigned park features walking paths, facilities for spending time with family members, a restaurant, a modern library, designated children's play areas, artificial water fountains and scenic water streams.
DSCC Administrator Abdus Salam, the secretary of the Local Government Division, senior officials and representatives of the relevant organisations attended the preparatory meeting.
The state minister expressed hope that all preparations would be completed smoothly and on time so that city dwellers could be welcomed to the new park on the scheduled date.
