Two dead in Kalabagan road accident
At least two people were killed and two others also injured as a speeding covered van ran over some rickshaws in Russell Square area under Kalabagan police station of the capital early Wednesday.
However, identities of the casualties could not be ascertained immediately.
Saiful Islam, officer-in-charge of Kalabagan police station, said the accident happened around 12.30am when the speeding covered van ran over the rickshaws after its driver lost control on steering nearby traffic police box in Russell Square area, leaving the duo dead on the spot and two others injured.

The injured were rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where they have been undergoing treatment, he said.
Though the covered van could be detained its driver and helper managed to flee, the OC added.

Jashore: Father, son among 5 killed as covered van ploughs into restaurant
At least five people, including a man and his son, were killed as a covered van veered off the road and ploughed into a roadside restaurant in Manirampur upazila of Jashore early Friday, police said.
The five people killed were identified as Habibur Rahman, 55, his son Taosi, 7, Ziarul, 35, Tauhidur, 35, and Mir Shamsul, 50, of the upazila.

"The accident occurred around 7:30am when the driver of a covered van lost control of his vehicle and ploughed into a restaurant in Begaritola when three of the five people were having breakfast, and others were standing nearby. They immediately died from the impact of the crash," Sheikh Moniruzzaman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Manirampur Police Station, said.

"Police seized the covered van, but its driver managed to flee. The bodies were sent to Jashore General Hospital," the OC added.

Couple killed after covered van rams motorcycle in Nilphamari
A motorcyclist and his wife were killed as a covered van hit their vehicle on Nilphamari-Syedpur road in Sadar upazila of Niphamari on Wednesday, police said.
The deceased were identified as Paresh Chandra Roy, 40, and Maya Rani Roy, 28. They worked at Nilphamari Export Processing Zone (EPZ).
The accident occurred in the evening when the covered van crashed into the motorcycle with a lot of force near Shimultala while Paresh and Maya were returning from work, Shawkat Ali, officer-in-charge (OC) of Nilphamari Sadar Police Station, said.

The couple died instantly from the impact of the crash, the OC said. "Police could not seize the vehicle as its driver sped away after the accident."

Cop killed in city road crash
A policeman was killed after being hit by a covered van in the city's Kakrail area Monday night.
The deceased was identified as Shahidul Islam, son of late Abdul Karim of Ishwarganj upazila in Mymensingh district.

The accident occurred when a covered van of Shah Cement hit Shahidul when he was crossing Kakrail area on his motorbike, leaving him seriously injured, said Subir Kumar Karmakar, sub-inspector of Ramna police station.
Later, he was taken to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

2 killed as garbage truck collided with covered van in CTG
Two people were killed in a collision between a garbage truck and a covered van on Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar highway in Lohagara upazila of the port city on Friday.
The deceased were identified as truck driver Mahfuz, 25, and the helper of the truck Kapil Uddin, 27, of Lohagara upazila, police said.

Md Sirajul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Dohajari highway police station, said the accident occurred when a Cox’s Bazar-bound covered van collided head-on with the garbage truck on the highway at Chunati area of the upazila around 4pm, leaving both drivers of the vehicles and Kapil seriously injured.
Later, Mahfuz and Kapil succumbed to their injuries on the way to Upazila Health Complex, he added.

The two vehicles were seized. Legal processes are underway in this regard, said the OC.

8 injured as Bangladesh Bank's wall collapses in Chattogram
Eight people including pedestrians and hawkers were on Sunday injured when the boundary wall of Bangladesh Bank in Chattogram collapsed after being hit by a covered van, police said.
The identity of the injured couldn’t be known immediately.
Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge Nezam Uddin said a covered van lost its control and crashed into the boundary wall of Bangladesh Bank at around 12:15 pm on leaving at least eight people injured. The injured were taken to Chattogram Medical College and Hospital.

The driver of the van was arrested and the vehicle was seized, the OC added.
Meanwhile, a team from the Chattogram Fire Service Department went to the spot to rescue the victims, said Kafil Uddin, an officer of the fire service control room.
Mohammad Ali, senior station officer of Agrabad Fire Service, said, "The injured were taken to hospital before we arrived. So far, the number of injured people was not known yet."
A number of hawkers sit on the pavement beside the boundary wall of Bangladesh Bank that collapsed. Many pedestrians also use this sidewalk.
