Prof Yunus hosts farewell luncheon for two outgoing Advisers
Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus on Thursday (December 11, 2025) hosted a luncheon in honour of outgoing Advisers Md Mahfuj Alam and Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain who submitted their resignation letters on Wednesday (December 10, 2025).
Their resignations will be effective as soon as the Election Commission announces the schedule (Thursday).
Members of the Council of Advisers attended the event at the Chief Adviser’s Office in Tejgaon, where advisers Asif Mahmud and Mahfuj Alam, the front-runners of last year’s July Uprising, led the proceedings.
Advisers Mahfuj Alam and Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan submitted their resignations to Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus at the State Guest House Jamuna on Wednesday, and both were accepted.

After accepting the resignation letters of these two student leaders, who led from the front lines in the July mass uprising, the Chief Adviser, "Today is a historic day. The interim government will always remember your contribution. I wish you a bright and prosperous future. The nation will never forget what you have given to the nation in such a short time."

Advisers Asif, Mahfuj step down ahead of national election
Youth and Sports Adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan and Information Adviser Mahfuj Alam have submitted their resignation letters.
Chief Adviser’s press secretary Shafiqul Alam briefed reporters about their resignation at the state guest house Jamuna on Wednesday evening.
The Chief Adviser accepted the resignation letters, which will take effect once the Election Commission announces the election schedule.
Election schedule to be announced Thursday evening
After accepting the resignations of the two former student leaders, who played a leading role in the July uprising, the Chief Adviser wished them well in their future endeavours.
“The way you led the uprising and contributed to freeing the nation from fascist rule will be remembered. I believe you will continue to play an active role in the democratic transition and its development in the future,” said Prof Yunus.
Prof Yunus said, “Today is a historic day. The interim government will always remember your contributions. I wish you a bright and prosperous future. The nation will never forget what you have given in such a short time. This is only a transition. I hope you will make even greater contributions on a broader stage in the future.”

Adviser Mahfuj Alam’s father injured in Lakshmipur attack
Azizur Rahman Bachchu Mollah, the father of Information Adviser Mahfuj Alam, has been injured in an attack allegedly carried out by Jubo Dal men in Lakshmipur.
The incident took place around 9:30 pm on Sunday in front of Bachchu Mollah’s house in Narayanpur of Ramganj upazila, said officer-in-charge (OC) of Ramganj Police Station Md Abul Bashar.

He was later taken to Ramganj Upazila Health Complex for primary treatment before being brought back home, the OC said.
According to police and witnesses, district Chhatra League Vice President Mehedi Hasan Manju arrived at his home in Narayanpur in Ichapur Union on Sunday afternoon, as he had been absconding since the fall of the Awami League government.
After spotting Manju in the area, a group of Jubo Dal men led by Sagar Hossain Shukkur attempted to assault him. Hearing about the altercation, Mahfuj’s father went there to understand the situation.
Later, enraged, Shukkur and several others started hurling bricks and stones at him, causing injuries to his hand.
In protest against the incident and demanding the arrest of those involved, general students brought out a protest march in Ramganj town at around 11:30 pm.
After parading key streets, they held a brief gathering in front of Ramganj Police Station, where they reiterated their demand for the immediate arrest of the attackers.
Following the attack, additional police forces have been deployed in the area as tensions between the two sides remain high.

Repeated attempts to contact the accused, Shukkur, for a statement over the phone were unsuccessful.
"A manhunt is underway to arrest the culprits," the OC added.
