A 20-year-old girl who was reportedly raped by four people on Thursday died at Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital early Saturday. The deceased was identified as Tama Khatun, daughter of Tofazzal Hossain in Bheramara upazila of Kushtia district. Rafiqul Islam, Officer-in-Charge of Bheramara Police Station, said mother of the girl lodged a complaint with the police station. According to the complaint, a motorcycle waylaid Toma at Gopalnagar around 9 pm on Thursday and picked her up to an abandoned place when she was returning to her home in Fakirabad Bakshipara. Later, four people raped her and all the accused left the place after leaving her at Bakshipara around 12 am. Around 12:30 am, family members of Toma rescued her and took her to Bheramara Upazila Health Complex. She was then referred to Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries around 2:30 am on Saturday. Family members of Toma claimed that Toma got divorced from her husband Abu Bakkar one and half month ago and her ex-husband might have been involved in the abduction and rape. However, police detained Abu Bakkar in this connection.
