A drug addict allegedly killed his mother with a sharp weapon after she refused to give him money to buy drugs in Rajshahi city on Saturday night. The victim was identified as Sohagi Khatun, 55, wife of Azizul Islam and mother of two sons and a daughter. After the attack, locals said, the man left her body on the street and locked himself inside his house before being arrested by police. They said the incident occurred around 9:30 pm near the old Krishi Bank in Khorkhori area of the city. According to them, the accused, Suman, demanded money from his mother for drugs.  When she refused, he stabbed her repeatedly in the chest and abdomen with a sharp chopper, killing her on the spot. Neighbours later informed police, who arrived at the scene and arrested him. Police recovered the body and sent it to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy. Neighbour Mozammel Haque said Suman had long been a drug addict and was involved in petty theft. He often carried a chopper or a spade, he added. Chandrimma Police Station Officer-in-Charge Monirul Islam said the accused is being interrogated and legal action is underway.

A 55-year-old woman was allegedly stabbed to death by her "drug addict" son over refusal to give him money at Kharuali village in Bhaluka upazila under Mymensingh district on Wednesday night. The deceased was identified as Rupina Begum, wife of Shahabuddin Sahu of the village. Quoting locals, Kamal Hossain, officer-in-charge of Bhaluka Model Police Station, said Jony Mia, 22, "a drug addict," used to harass his mother Rupina for money. A teenage boy, who is believed to be drug addict, allegedly killed his father failing to get money from him for purchasing drugs at Rajpara in Rajshahi city on Sunday. Mazharul Islam, officer-in-charge of Rajpara Police Station, said the teenage boy used to take drug.He demanded money from his father around 10:30am but he denied providing any money. Later, Jewel was taken to local hospital where the doctors declared him dead. Local people caught the boy and handed over him to police.

A 25-year-old youth was found dead under mysterious circumstances at a rehabilitation centre along Nobogram Road in Barishal in the early hours of Friday. The deceased was identified as Chandan Sakar, 25, son of Chittaranjan Sarkar of the Barapaika area in Agailjhara upazila. Sarwar, a volunteer at Holy Care, said, "I was told around 3.15am that someone had ended his life in the washroom. I rushed there only to find Chandan hanging from the grille of the window with a towel." On information, police took the body in their custody and sent it to the morgue of Sher-e-Bangla Medical College and Hospital for an autopsy. One of his relatives said, "If Chandan had committed suicide, then why did the rehab staff bring the body down before the cops reached the spot." Meanwhile, other patients at the rehab centre claimed that Sarwar, in charge of the volunteers, often beat them up. Chandan Sarkar was also thrashed around 10.30 on Thursday, they alleged. "We will wait for the police probe." Shahjalal Mallick, sub-inspector at Kotwali Model Police Station, said the body had bruises. "We will investigate the death," he said.

A man and his wife were killed by their son, described as a drug addict by police, at Ramkrishnapur in Chowgachha upazila on Wednesday morning.
