Youth arrested on charge of hurting communal harmony
Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) have arrested Facebook page admin Ashish Mallick, 30, from Banani in the city on on charge of hurting communal harmony through false propaganda on social media.
Based on secret information, an operational team of the Rab-1 conducted a drive in Banani area on Tuesday evening and arrested Ashish, said ASP (Ops officer) Noman Ahmed of the Rab-1.
One mobile phone was recovered from his possession during the drive.

During preliminary interrogation, Ashish confessed to his involvement in cybercrime. His village home is in Chottagram dstrict and he was running a coaching centre after graduating from Dhaka College.
During interrogation Rab gathered that the arrested person opened a Facebook page on October 16 and posted various provocative statements on that page as well as from his personal ID. He and a few other like-minded people worked as admins. Very soon the number of members and followers of that page exceeded several thousand. From this Facebook page, false information and provocative posts were given about the Cumilla incident and attempts were made to destroy communal harmony and spread violence in Bangladesh, ASP Noman said.

The Facebook page was being uploaded with videos of various atrocities that took place in neighboring countries to create fear in the minds of the people. Accused Ashish was involved in a conspiracy to establish this country as a communal state by hash tagging every post, he said.
