Police seized 1266 sacks containing almost 38 metric tonnes of government rice meant for vulnerable groups from two godowns at Satgari in the municipality area of Chuadanga district Monday.
Tipped off, a team of local administration and the Food Department conducted a drive in two silos owned by one Nazrul Islam, and seized the rice sacks.
Each sack contains 30 kg of rice, said Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Sadiqur Rahman, for a total of 37,980 kg.
Later, UNO Sadiqur Rahman sealed off the two godowns.
A three-member probe body, headed by Manira Parvin, additional deputy commissioner, was formed to look into the incident.
