Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) recovered 14 gold bars worth around Tk 1.5 from a cigarette packet at Chattogram Shah Amanat International Airport on Friday morning.
Md Al Amin Prodhan, revenue officer of the CIID in Chattogram, said they spotted the cigarette packet attached with a luggage in a conveyor belt at the airport in the morning.
Later, the gold bars were recovered from the packet, he said, adding no one was arrested in this connection.
The CIID officials suspected that the gold was brought from the United Arab Emirates as an air Arabia flight landed early morning.
The gold bars were handed over to the government exchequer and a legal process is underway in this regard.
