A 14-year-old girl drowned while bathing in a pond in Aditmari upazila on Saturday afternoon.
The deceased, Hazera, was the daughter of Abul Hossain and Rowshan Ara Begum of the Borokamlabari area in Kamlabari union.
Locals said Hazera went to bathe in a pond near their house with her 10-year-old sister, Fahima, in the afternoon.

At one point, Hazera went into deep water and disappeared. When she did not resurface, Fahima ran home and informed her family members.
Although locals launched an immediate search, they were unable to locate her.
On information, a team from Aditmari Fire Service and Civil Defence, led by Warehouse Inspector Nitai Chandra, rushed to the scene.
Nitai Chandra said the fire service team was unable to retrieve her because of the depth of the water.
Later, they called a specialised diving team from Rangpur.
The divers recovered the body after a 30-minute search and handed it over to her family.
