A Dhaka court on Monday sentenced 18 leaders and activists of BNP to three years jail each in a case filed over a clash with police in 2019.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Begum Afnan Somi passed the order.

The court also fined them Tk 5,000 each, in default to suffer one month jail in two separate sections under the case.
The convicts are-- Joint secretary of Dhaka South City unit BNP Anwar Pervez Badal, joint general secretary of Jubo Dal Central Committee Mir Newaz Ali Newaz, Jubo Dal Chawkbazar unit convener Sabha Karim Lucky, President of No 59 ward BNP Syed Hossain Sohel, general secretary of No 24 ward unit BNP Tasaddek Hossain Bablu, BNP leaders Shafiuddin Ahmed Sentu, Aminul Islam Amin, Arman Ahmed, Farhad Hossain Bunty, Riazuddin Badsha, Rafiqul Islam Russel, Nazimuddin Naju, Maniur Rahman Monir, Tipu Sultan, Rafiqur Islam, Liton and Muhin.

The court also acquitted Mir Ashraf Ali as allegations brought against him could not be proved.
On December 8, 2019, the leaders and activists of the BNP brought a procession in the Chawkbazar area demanding the release of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia.
Sylhet BNP leaders arrested during leaflet distribution
A clash took place between the BNP men and police during the procession.
Sub-inspector Gias Uddin of Chwkbazar Model Police Station filed a case against 19 people.
Police submitted a chargesheet against them on November 18, 2020.
