Police on Sunday arrested two muggers who stabbed a 55-year old man to death earlier in the day in the city’s Sayedabad area.
The arrestees were identified as Shajib and Shakil, both 20 years old.
They were arrested after blood stains were noticed on their clothes from Gandaria area around afternoon during a drive, said Mazharul Islam, Officer-in-Charge of Jatrabari police station.
Two knives they used for mugging were recovered from them, he said.
Mohammad Mosharraf Hossain, a grocer and resident of Gandaria's Ghuntighar area, was attacked by the muggers at around 4:45 am near Daya Ganj intersection while he was on a rickshaw.
They stabbed him on the chest and hand and took away his money and mobile phone set, said the deceased’s nephew Shahjalal.
As the muggers fled from the spot, with the help of the rickshaw puller he reached home and his family rushed him to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) at 5.30 am where doctors declared him dead.
The body has been sent for autopsy, said Bachchu Mia, police inspector at the DMCH police outpost.
