Miscreants set fire to two CNG-run auto-rickshaws in Feni town during the ongoing 48-hour blockade enforced by the BNP and like-minded parties to press home their one-point demand.
The vehicles parked on Shaheed Shahidullah Kaisar Sarak in front of ‘Green Tower’ shopping mall were torched in the early morning.
Police and witnesses said some miscreants exploded crude bombs to create panic among people in front of the shopping mall and then set fire to the vehicles.
Iqbal Hossain, driver of one of the auto-rickshaws, said the miscreants hit his head with bricks when he tried to resist them.
The driver said 12-13 youths suddenly set fire to the vehicles after coming out from an alley and fled the scene instantly. Later locals doused the flame.
Mizanur Rahman, in-charge of Feni town police outpost, said they brought the damaged vehicles to the police station and a legal action will be taken in this regard.
District unit BNP’s student wing Chhatra Dal General Secretary Morshed Alam Mamun claimed that though they brought out a procession in favour of the blockade in front of the shopping mall none of them was involved in the incident.
Earlier on Sunday, some 26 vehicles were reportedly torched during the first day of the blockade.
