A case has been filed at a Dhaka court against eight people, including a woman and two police officers, over the murder of an expatriate in the capital.
The accused are DMP Badda zone assistant commissioner of police Md Toyaser Jahan, Vatara Police Station Sub-Inspector Md Moshiur, Suzana Tabassum Salam, Md Aftab, Mohammad Qamrul Huq, Mohammad Aswad, Sakhawat and caretaker Ripon.
Deceased Shafayet Mahbub Faraizi's mother Shamimum Nahar filed the case at the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Arafatul Rakib on Wednesday.
After recording Nahar's statement, the court ordered the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to submit an investigation report within March 9.
According to the case statement, Shafayet returned from the US on September 29, 2021. His friends Suzana, Aftab, Sakhawat and Aswad used to visit his residence in Dhaka.
Suzana, who was the most frequent visitor, used to take drugs and would encourage Shafayet to do so as well. When she came to know this, Nahar forbade her from meeting her son anymore, or coming to their house.
Upset with this, Suzana came to Shafayet's home last November 23 with Aftab, Sakhawat and Aswad and physically assaulted the mother and son. They had to be rescued by police that night, after they called 999; police went to the house and brought the situation under control.
Then on December 10 last year, the plaintiff and her son were attacked again, this time in the Gulshan area. When they went to Gulshan Police Station, police refused to lodge a general diary (GD) over the incident.

They were threatened that if Shafayet does not stay in touch with Suzana her friends will not let him stay in the country.
On December 25, Shafayet went outside. When he returned home Suzana and her friends also came along.
Shafayet's mother got angry and told them to leave. He went outside with them but did not return.
On December 26 evening, Shafayet's body was recovered near Vatara Police Station.
