Cox’s Bazar, Sept 27 (UNB) – Two suspected drug peddlers were killed in a reported gunfight with members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) at Hinla Jaliapara in Teknaf upazila early Friday.
The identities of the deceased could not be known yet.
When some people were crossing the Naf river around 4 am, a patrol team of BGB asked the boatman to anchor it on the river bank, said Commanding officer of BGB-2 Lieutenant Colonel Foysal Hasan Khan.
Sensing danger, the criminals opened fire on the BGB men, forcing them to fire back self-defense.
After a brief gunfight, the BGB men rescued two people with bullet wounds while the others managed to flee the scene.
Later, they were taken to a local hospital where doctors declared them dead.
70,000 pieces of Yaba tablets and one gun were recovered from the spot.
