Two fishermen sustained bullet injuries in an alleged attack by pirates in the Meghna River in Huzurer Char area in between Bhola’s Tazumuddin and Noakhali early Monday.
The injured are Md Hossain Majhi, of Bhola’s Burhanuddin upazila and Md Sohel, of Ramgati upazila in Laxmipur district.
The victims said they sailed for the river with two fishing trawlers from the Huzurer Char area around 12am.
A group of 10 pirates equipped with guns, sharp weapons, swooped on them when they were catching, the fishermen said.

The pirates looted hoarded fish, nets, mobile phones and other valuables from them, they said, adding that miscreants opened fire on them when they tried to resist them.
At one stage, the duo fell into the river from the trawlers and went missing till Monday morning.
Later, locals rescued them and rushed to Bhola Sadar Hospital where they are now undergoing treatment.

Dr Tayebur Rahman, residential medical officer of the hospital, said the fishermen who were admitted with bullet injuries are now out of danger.
Ripon Sarkar, additional superintendent of Bhola police, said they were looking into the matter and legal actions will be taken in this regard.
