Police have arrested two people from Khilgaon area of the capital in connection with their suspected involvement in the murder of auto-rickshaw driver Jony.
The arrestee was identified as Mehedi Hasan Bappi, 28 and Nur Alam Barek, 24.
A team of Police bureau of Investigation (PBI) arrested Bappi from Kadamtoli area on October 9, said Superintendent of Police SM Mostain Hossain, while speaking at a press briefing held at PBI Khilgaon, Banasree office on Sunday.
Following the confessional statement of Bappi, police arrested Barek from the same area on October 10 (Saturday).
Earlier on August 29, Jony went out from his home around 1 am. Later, a patrol team of police found him injured in an attack at Jurain area around 5 am and took him to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital where the doctors declared him dead.
Dalia, mother of Jony filed a case with Kadamtali Police Station.
According to PBI, Jony along with Bappi and Barek intercepted two pedestrians in Jurain area around 3:30 am on August 29 and snatched away a bag containing the pedestrian including mobile phone and cash.
At one stage, Jony was caught red-handed while fleeing with the booty. Sensing danger, Bappi tried to hit a pedestrian with a knife but mistakenly it hit on the chest of Jony.
Bappi and Barek then managed to flee with the booty leaving Jony behind the spot.
