Police have recovered 4.33 kilograms of heroin worth around Tk 4 crore from a truck in Sirajganj and arrested its driver and helper.
The arrestees are truck driver Abu Bakkar, 44, of Maharajpur village in Chapainawabganj, and helper Sohag Ali, 19, of Sultanganj village in Rajshahi's Godagari upazila.
Police Superintendent Saiful Islam Santu disclosed the information at a press briefing at his office on Monday afternoon.
Acting on a tip-off, police set up a temporary checkpoint near the Jamuna Bridge western toll plaza late Sunday night and stopped a Dhaka-bound truck from Chapainawabganj.
Searching the truck, police recovered 4.33 kilograms heroin and 58 narcotic injections and arrested the two men.
A case has been filed with Jamuna Bridge West Police Station.
Police said the two men had allegedly been involved in the illegal drug trade for a long time. A drug case is also pending against driver Abu Bakkar with Darus Salam Police Station in Dhaka.
The police superintendent said special drives against drugs would continue.
