Police have arrested two leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami in connection with an alleged assault on an officer-in-charge (OC) and several police personnel at Palashbari Police Station in Gaibandha.
The second arrest came early Friday when Detective Branch (DB) police detained former Ameer of Palashbari municipal Jamaat, Mizanur Rahman, from his Giridhari Para residence. He was later sent to jail following a court order.
Earlier, another accused, Towhidul Islam Kanon, was arrested in the same case, bringing the total number of arrests to two.
According to Palashbari Police Station OC Sarwar-e Alam, the incident occurred on Wednesday night around 9:30pm over a dispute related to locking a shop owned by the municipality.
A group of Jamaat activists, led by Mahmudul Hasan Palash, Baitul Mal secretary of Jubo Jamaat, reportedly entered the police station and demanded that police listen to their grievances. When police refused, they allegedly assaulted the OC and other officers.

At least nine police personnel, including the OC, several sub-inspectors, and a female constable, were injured in the attack, police said.
A case was filed with Palashbari Police Station by an SI over the incident, and further legal action is underway.
