Jhenaidah, Oct 11 (UNB) – At least 20 people were injured in a clash between two factions of Awami League over establishing supremacy at Kesmatpur village in Harinakundu upazila on Wednesday.
Witnesses said Awlad Hossain, president of Chandpur union unit Awami League and Kashem Biswas, general secretary of Chandpur union unit Jubo League, had long been at loggerheads over establishing supremacy in the area.
As a sequel to the enmity, Mahbub, a supporter of Kashem Biswas and Shaheb, supporter of Awlad, locked into an altercation over the issue around 7 pm on Wednesday.
At one stage, both groups attacked each other with lethal weapons, leaving 20 people injured, said Asaduzzaman Munshi, officer-in-charge of Harinakundu Police Station.
Of the injured 16 were taken to Sadar Hospital for treatment.
On information, police went to the spot and brought the situation under control.
Meanwhile, three people were arrested in this connection.
