Twenty students of Sher-e-Bangla Medical College in Barishal were injured when a bus carrying them fell into a roadside ditch on Dhaka-Chattogram Highway in Daudkandi upazila of Cumilla district on Tuesday.
The injured students were identified as Jaoat, Ferdous, Koushi, Miraj, Mursalin, Emon Mridha, Arif, Shafiqul Islam, Maliha Mehnaz, Raihan, Sajia, Taspia, Ariful Islam, Samiul, Rajarshi, Tasnim, Humayra, Mila, Nisa and Tanzina.
The accident occurred around 4:30 am in the Jinglatali area when the bus, carrying 40 students, fell into the roadside ditch after its driver lost control over steering while heading to Cox’s Bazar for an annual educational tour, said Assistant Sub-Inspector Nur Uddin Bahar of Daudkandi Highway Police Station.
Following the accident, the students cancelled their tour and returned home.
On information, police rushed to the spot and rescued the injured students.
Among the injured, nine students were sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatment.
