At least 20 students fell ill after consuming food distributed under the school feeding programme at a primary school in Chapainawabganj municipality on Wednesday.
The incident occurred at Shankarbati Government Primary School around noon, triggering concern among teachers, students and guardians.
According to school sources, bread, bananas and eggs were served to students around 11:00am as part of the regular feeding programme. Shortly after consuming the food, students of classes II, III and IV began showing symptoms of illness.
At least 20 students complained of vomiting, severe abdominal pain, dizziness and eye irritation.
Acting Head Teacher of the school Shamsunnahar said there had been prior complaints about the quality of food supplied by the contractor, GAK, but no effective action was taken.
Efforts to contact Liton Mia, district field officer of the supplier, were unsuccessful.
District Primary Education Officer Saiful Islam said they will investigate the incident and strict action will be taken if any negligence is found.
