Three passengers of a battery-powered autorickshaw were killed, and three others injured when a truck hit their vehicle in Dupchanchia upazila of Bogura on Friday night.
Dupchanchia Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Faridul Islam said the accident occurred around 8:30 pm in Dupchanchia Mail Bus Stand area on the Naogaon-Bogura regional road.
The autorickshaw’s axle reportedly broke as it entered the road, and at that moment, a speeding truck carrying cattle from Naogaon to Bogura rammed into it.
"Three people died on the spot. The remaining three were rescued with serious injuries and taken to a hospital. They were returning home after working at a tiles factory when the accident occurred," the OC said.
The deceased were identified as Mozahar Ali, 60, son of the late Abdul Aziz from Baliadighi in Gobindapur union; Sadiqul Islam, son of Md Saiful from the same area; and Shahidul Islam, 60, son of the late Mansur from Santahar in Naogaon.
Police sent the bodies to the morgue for autopsy, while the truck driver fled the scene with his vehicle, the OC added.
