Sources at the Coast Guard Headquarters here said the rescued Rohingyas include 150 male, 182 women and 64 children.
Tipped off , a team of Coast Guard Station Baharchhora of Teknaf went to Jahajpuraghat area and found the floating fishing trawler around 9:05 pm.
They took the hungry and sick Rohingyas to Jahajpuraghat and gave them food, primary treatment and other services. Then they were cordoned off with the help of police and Border Guard Bangladesh members, said spokesman of the Coast Guard Headquarters Lt Hayat Ibne Siddique.
Talking to the rescued Rohingyas, the Coast Guard members came to know that the trawler was floating in the sea for 58 days, Lt Hayat said.
The Rohingya people, from different refugee camps in Teknaf, went to Malaysia illegally by sea but turned back by the Malaysian Coast Guard members when they reached Malaysian maritime area.
Later, they were trying to enter Myanmar but caught by Mayanmar Navy who pushed them back towards Bangladesh maritime territory, said Lt Hayat quoting the rescued Rohingyas.
The rescued Rohingyas were handed over to UNHCR Bangladesh on Thursday, he said.
