The headmaster of a high school in Sadar upazila allegedly beat five students of another high school over the stalking of a girl of his school although they protested the incident.
The victims are Rubel Rana, Mohammad Sabuj, Sarwar, Asif and Ashraful, Class-X students of Bhelarhat High School in the upazila.
The incident which happened on Sunday came to light on Wednesday.
Talking to reporters, the victims said they were returning from tuition on Saturday when they saw a boy named Liton, 15, son of Sirajul Islam of Monnapara village, harassing a Class-VII girl of Barrister Jamir Uddin Sircar High School.
As they protested the incident, Liton went away from the spot.
However, Abdul Jabbar, headmaster of Barrister Jamir Uddin Sircar High School and former chairman of Akhanagar union parishad in the upazila, called the five students to arbitration at his school at 2 pm on Sunday when they narrated the incident.
However, arbitrators, led by Jabbar, refused to accept their claim and instead the headmaster beat them.
At one stage, he got their heads shaved done by a barber.
The victim girl said Liton waylaid her and tried to give her a rose when the five students protested it. “However, instead of punishing the offender, arbitrators shaved the heads of the students without listening to me,” she said, demanding punishment of Liton.
Despite repeated attempts, Jabbar could not be reached over his mobile phone for his version over the incident.
District Secondary Education Officer Mosharraf Hossain said they will take necessary actions after investigating the incident.
Officer-in-charge of Ruhia Police Station Pradip Kumar Roy said action will be taken if anyone lodges any written complaint.
