The Special Committee on Constitutional Amendment held its fifth meeting on Sunday to receive opinions from representatives of small ethnic communities and also the representatives of working-class people who contributed to the July Mass Uprising over the upcoming amendment to the constitution.
The meeting was held at the Cabinet Room of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban, with the committee chief Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed in the chair.
The representatives placed different proposals before the committee on various issues related to constitutional amendments.
The committee requested participants to submit any additional written proposals they might have beyond those raised during the meeting.
Committee members --Chief Whip Nurul Islam Moni, Law Minister Md Asaduzzaman, Information Minister Andaleeve Rahman, State Minister for Planning Md. Zonayed Abdur Rahim Saki, Shakila Farzana and Md. Mahmudul Hoque Rubel—attended the meeting.
MPs Dipen Dewan, Anna Minj and Madhabi Marma also attended the meeting at the special invitation.
As part of consultation with different stakeholders, the special committee will invite people from different professions and sections of society to its upcoming meetings in phases. The invitees will include women leaders, constitutional experts, academics, individuals and organisations involved in the July Mass Uprising, people involved in drafting the July National Charter, Supreme Court judges and lawyers, teachers, working people and leaders from various sectors.
The Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Secretary and the relevant officials of the Parliament Secretariat were also present.
