Six people were burnt as a gas cylinder exploded in a shop at Sayedabad of Jatrabari in the capital on Saturday afternoon.
The injured people were identified as Md. Shafiqul Islam (50), Md. Shamsuddin Robin (25), Md. Abul Kalam (45), Bishwanath (48), Md. Ripon (45) and Md. Kabir Hossain (38).
All six are undergoing treatment at Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery Hospital.
The incident took place near a tea stall in Sayedabad around 5pm on Saturday (November 13).
Injured Shamsuddin Robin said they sustained the burn injuries when a gas cylinder exploded near a tea stall in Sayedabad Janpad crossing area of Jatrabari, while painting a cylinder. After being rescued, they were rushed to Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery hospital.
Ayub Hossain, a resident surgeon at the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, said Kabir Hossain sustained 85 percent burn injuries, Abul Kalam received 80 percent, both Shamshuuddin Robin and Shafiqul Islam received 78 percent and Md Ripon received 60 percent. Bishwanath Datta received 38 percent burn injuries.
The condition of the first five is critical, while another (Bishwanath) one is out of danger, Ayub Hossain said.
Inspector Bachchu Mia, in-charge of police camp at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, confirmed the matter.
