A Joypurhat court on Tuesday convicted eight people and sentenced them to life imprisonment for killing a man in 2015.
Joypurhat Additional Sessions Judge Md Nurul Islam handed down the punishment.
The convicts are-Sujaul alias Sejaul, son of Tasir Uddin, Rubel, son of Moynuddin, Lamba Babu, son of Khorshed Alam, Zia, son of Jobbar Mandal, Mizanur Rahman alias Picchi Jewel, son of Hasan, Faridul Islam alias Kana Sabuj, son of Shahjahan Ali, Rana Ahmed, son of Obaidul Islam and Mithun, son of Jalal Uddin of sadar upazila.
Of them, Sujaul, Zia, Jewel and Sabuj were tried in absentia.
The court also fined them Tk 50,000, in default, to suffer, two years more in rigorous imprisonment.
According to the prosecution, Kamal Hossain, son of Abdus Salam of East Debipur village and Sejaul had been at loggerheads over establishing supremacy in the area.
On October 3, 2015, the convicts called Kamal to an abandoned house where they killed him.
Police recovered the body of Kamal on the following day.
Kamal’s mother filed a case with Sadar Police Station on that day.
