An eight-year-old boy died after a BRTC bus hit him near Sergeant Ahad Police Box in the capital's Gulistan area on Thursday.
The deceased Mohammad Sumon, hailed from Sherpur, used to sell books in the area.
The crash occurred around 4pm when Sumon was standing behind a Jainopur Express bus while he was selling books, said Md Babu, a community policeman who brought the boy to the hospital.
At one point, a speeding BRTC double-decker crushed him against the Jainopur bus, leaving him critically injured, he said.
The boy was rushed to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital emergency ward, where doctors declared him dead around 4:45 pm, added the community policeman.
The body was kept at the DMCH morgue for an autopsy, said Atis Kumar Biswas, sub-inspector of Paltan Police Station.
