Rangpur Metropolitan Police filed 88 cases and seized 50 vehicles over in 48 hours till Thursday morning to restore road discipline, tackle fuel crisis and improve traffic management in the city .
RPMP media cell issued a press release in this regard on Thursday morning.
According to the release, special checkpoints were set up at six key points in the city—DC’s Mor, Medical Mor, Mahiganj Satmatha, Central Bus Terminal, Shapla Chattar and Modern Mor—to ensure traffic discipline.
During the drive, legal action was taken against various vehicles including motorcycles, trucks and private cars, for not having valid documents such as driving licences and registration papers, as well as for not using helmets.
To restore order on the roads, the district administration has also instructed petrol pump owners not to supply fuel to any driver without a valid driving licence, helmet and necessary documents.
RPMP Commissioner Md Majid Ali said police are working tirelessly to ensure public safety, maintain traffic discipline and prevent any kind of illegal activities, including drug-related offences.
He said the drives will continue in the public interest and urged people to follow traffic rules and cooperate with law enforcement agencies.
