Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Husain has said a plan has been taken to establish a health hub for every three unions as part of decentralisation of healthcare services across the country.

“There will be five-tier healthcare services. As part of this initiative, a plan has been taken to establish a health hub for every three unions, while a Health Wellbeing Centre for every three wards of the union,” he said.

The minister made the announcement, while talking to reporters during a surprise visit to the Naogaon Sadar Hospital on Sunday, said a PID handout on Monday.

He said a 50-bed dialysis centre will be installed in every medical college hospital and 10-bed dialysis centres will be set up in every district hospital.

“Dialysis services will be available at the district level, reducing the need for patients to travel to Dhaka,” the minister added.

He said the government initially announced that the bed capacity of Upazila Health Complexes will be upgraded from 50 to 101 beds, but started work to increase the capacity to 151 beds instead as per instruction issued by the Prime Minister.

About the environment and services of the public hospital, Sakhawat said he received no negative report from anyone rather patients told him that they were receiving good care and medication there. “The doctors and nurses are sincere, and the quality of the food given to the patients is also good,” he said.

He said initiative has been taken to further improve the quality of food to be served among the patients.
