The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed two separate cases against former customs officer Abdul Barik and his wife Ferdous Yasmin Khan on charges of amassing undisclosed wealth and concealing information.
Sabuj Hossain, Deputy Assistant Director of the Anti-Corruption Commission, filed two separate cases against the couple at the Combined District Office, Chattogram-1 on today Tuesday (May 21).
One case has been filed only against former customs officer Abdul Barik, while the other case has named both him and his wife as defendants.
According to the allegations made in the case against Abdul Barik, he submitted a wealth statement on December 14, 2020. In it, he declared to acquire immovable property worth Tk 3 lakh 8 thousand.
ACC files case against CCC councillor Salim Ullah and wife
Upon investigation, it was found that he had indeed acquired immovable property worth Tk 3 lakh 8 thousand. Additionally, he announced the acquisition of movable property worth Tk 42 lakh 24 thousand 678 in the submitted asset statement. However, upon investigation, it was found that he owned movable property worth Tk 1 crore 65 lakh 39 thousand 600. In this case, Abdul Barik concealed information about the acquisition of movable property worth Tk 1 crore 23 lakh 14 thousand 922.
Upon reviewing records, it was found that Abdul Barik had a total of Tk 1 crore 68 lakh 39 thousand 600 in movable and immovable assets. He is liable for Tk 12 lakh 97 thousand 328. Therefore, his net asset value is Tk 1 crore 55 lakh 50 thousand 272. His family expenditure and other expenses amount to Tk 2 crore 65 lakh 8 thousand 978. Of this, his legitimate income is Tk 1 crore 94 lakh 46 thousand 822. In this case, he has accumulated illegal assets of Tk 70 lakh 62 thousand 156.
ACC files case against ex-police official in Chattogram
Regarding the matter, Sabuj Hossain, Deputy Assistant Director of the ACC’s Combined District Office, Chattogram-1, said that Abdul Barik, a former revenue officer at Chattogram Customs, and his wife Ferdous Yasmin Khan were served a notice in October 2020. After verifying the submitted asset statements, it was found that Ferdous Yasmin Khan owns illegal assets worth Tk 1 crore 92 lakh 65 thousand. On the other hand, Abdul Barik has hidden information about the acquisition of movable property worth Tk 1 crore 23 lakh 14 thousand 922.
ACC files case against DNCC ward councilor
Abdul Barik was appointed as assistant revenue officer at Chattogram Customs on February 14, 1990. In 2010, he was promoted to the position of revenue officer. He retired in 2014. While in service, he and his wife, Ferdous Yasmin, accumulated vast undisclosed wealth in Dhaka, Chattogram, and Noakhali.
