The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Thursday submitted the chargesheet of a case filed against 14 people, including Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus, for allegedly embezzling Tk 25.22 crore of the Grameen Telecom Workers' Welfare Fund.
Deputy Director of the ACC and Investigation Officer of the case Gulshan Anwar Prodhan submitted the chargesheet before the Metropolitan Senior Special Judge's Court of Dhaka on Thursday afternoon.
The 13 other accused are Grameen Telecom Managing Director Nazmul Islam, Director Ashraful Hasan, former MD Parveen Mahmood, Director, Najnin Sultana, Shahjahan, Noorjahan Begum, and S. M. Hazzatul Islam Latifi, all serving as directors, along with Advocate Yusuf Ali, Advocate Zaforul Hasan Sharif, Mo. Kamruzzaman, President of the Union of Gramin Telecom Employees, Firoz Mahmud Hasan, General Secretary Kamrul Hasan, office secretary of the Employees' Union office, and representative Mainul Islam.
The case is scheduled for March 3.
The ACC also appealed to the court to issue arrest warrants against 13 accused, including Yunus as they did not get bail.
Earlier on January 29, the ACC approved the chargesheet against them.
Among the accused, a new addition to the list is Kamrul Hasan, office secretary of the Union of Grameen Telecom Employees.
ACC’s Deputy Director Gulshan Anowar Pradhan filed the case against Dr Yunus and 12 others for misappropriation of about Tk 25 crore from the company’s WPPF fund on May 30 last year.
