A total of 596 road accidents were recorded across Bangladesh in February this year, resulting in 578 deaths - both numbers only slightly down on the corresponding numbers for January, when 608 deaths occurred in 621 accidents. In fact the difference is so small that it can be almost fully attributed to February being a shorter month by three days.

Apart from those killed, at least 1,327 individuals suffered injuries . Among the deceased, 73 were women and 87 were children.
These findings were presented in a report by the non-governmental organization Road Safety Foundation on Saturday (March 8).
Two killed in Rajshahi road accident
The report was compiled based on information from nine national newspapers, seven online news portals, various electronic media, and the organization’s own data.
According to the Road Safety Foundation, 241 motorcycle accidents led to 227 deaths, accounting for 39.27% of total fatalities. Motorcycles were involved in 40.43% of all road accidents in February.
Additionally, 114 pedestrians were killed, representing 19.72% of total fatalities, while 82 drivers and their assistants lost their lives (14.18%).

The report also noted that two waterway accidents resulted in four deaths and two injuries, while 14 railway accidents caused 13 deaths and left six people injured.
A total of 938 vehicles were involved in these accidents throughout the month.
