Indian Acting High Commissioner to Bangladesh Pawankumar Badhe on Thursday highlighted the role of music in strengthening cultural ties between the two countries.

He underscored the power of music to transcend borders, connect people and foster mutual understanding between the two countries.

The Acting High Commissioner made the remarks while speaking at a cultural programme held in the evening.

The High Commission of India and the Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre (IGCC), under the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), organised the “Musical Evening with the Legends” to celebrate the timeless legacy of Lata Mangeshkar, Kishore Kumar and Manna Dey.

Badhe highlighted the importance of cultural exchanges in strengthening the longstanding friendship and people-to-people ties between India and Bangladesh.

He also spoke about the musical legacy of the three legendary singers and their enduring popularity across generations.

Acclaimed Bangladeshi singers Samarjit Roy and Anupama Mukti enthralled the audience with memorable renditions of popular songs, including a special duet.

Samarjit Roy, a Bangladeshi vocalist, composer and music director trained in Indian classical music, performed a selection of songs originally sung by Kishore Kumar and Manna Dey.

Anupama Mukti, an acclaimed playback singer known for her contributions to Bangladeshi cinema and music, presented several popular songs originally sung by Lata Mangeshkar.

The two singers were accompanied by a group of talented musicians.

Through their soulful performances, the artists delighted the audience while paying tribute to the enduring legacy of the three musical legends.

The event highlighted the cultural connections between India and Bangladesh and the role of music and artistic exchanges in strengthening people-to-people ties.

The musical evening reflected IGCC’s continued efforts to promote Indian culture and performing arts in Bangladesh while further strengthening the shared cultural heritage and enduring friendship between the two countries.

The event was attended by senior artists, cultural personalities representing various cultural organisations in Bangladesh, and music enthusiasts from across the country.
