The Minister came up with the remarks while attending a programme organised by Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) in the city.
“In 2009, there were only a few online news portals which is now too many but not all of them are supportive. So, we started the registration process,” he said.
Action will be taken from next year against the new portals which are used for personal interest, spread rumours and create instability in the society, the Minister said.
"This is not the scenario of Bangladesh, but of the whole world. In the developed countries, it has been possible to establish discipline in this sector which has not been fully possible here. Sometimes, wrong news is published," he added.
The Minister said there are many unwanted mistakes, especially in online media. In this regard, DRU took the initiative of training journalists along with PIB, which is really appreciable.
