Caretaker of the elephant Sohel Rana said it had been sick after a tumour was detected in its body 15 days ago.
Rajshahi Forest Department provided treatment to the ailing animal.
“We were bringing it back to Sylhet after the elephant recovered partially four days ago but it died on the way,” he said.

Abdul Jalil, owner of the elephant, said the circus remained suspended due to coronavirus pandemic for the past few months.
So, the animal was rented to different amusement centers, he said.

District Animal Welfare Officer Dr Akhtaruzzaman said the authorities of national zoo and museum have been informed about the mater.
They will decide the next step after visiting the spot on Friday, he said.
