After forming her fourth consecutive government, Prime Minister and also Awami League President Sheikh Hasina is going to her ancestral homeland, Gopalganj’s Tungipara, for two days starting Saturday, where she will pay tribute at the mausoleum of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
It will be her maiden excursion outside the capital since taking oath as prime minister for a fifth time following her party's overwhelming victory in the 12th parliamentary national election.
Stringent security measures have been taken ahead of the visit and the entire district is adorned with banners, festoons, digital displays and so on to welcome Sheikh Hasina.
Party insiders and administration said the premier is scheduled to leave for Gopalaganj from her official residence Ganababhan by road.
On the first day of the visit, Sheikh Hasina will pay tribute to the father she tragically lost, at the mausoleum of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in Tungipara.
She is expected to be accompanied by cabinet members and her family members.
In the afternoon of the first day, the premier is scheduled to exchange greetings and views with party leaders and activists of Tungipara upazila unit.
AL President Hasina will stay at her own home in Tungipara on Saturday night.
On the second day, she will also exchange greetings with the party fellows on Kotalipara upazila premises and return to Dhaka by road in the afternoon.
A festive mood is already prevailing among the party leaders, and activists and also people from all walks of life centring the visit.
GM Shahabuddin Azam, general secretary of the district unit of the AL, said their all-out preparations to receive the premier are almost complete.
This time, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will be received with flowers from the district’s entrance Muksudpur upazila, he said, adding that the party fellows will also greet her by scattering flowers on both sides of the road from Muksudpur to Tungipara.
He said leaders and activists at all levels of the district, upazilas and unions were given special directives to make her visit a success.
Tungipara upazila Awami League’s General Secretary Babul Sheikh said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is coming to exchange greetings with her people while the party fellows are happy with his arrival.
Deputy Commissioner Kazi Mahbubul Alam said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is coming on a two-day visit on January 13 and 14.
Apart from placing wreaths at the mausoleum of Bangabandhu, she will also exchange greetings with party leaders and workers at Tungipara and Kotalipara.
“We have completed proper preparations with the coordination of all including law enforcement agencies to make the visit of the Prime Minister festive and secure,” the DC added.
