He urged everyone to remove stagnant water inside and outside of buildings.
Islam made the disclosure at an inter-ministerial review meeting on dengue prevention measures at Dhaka WASA Bhaban in Kawran Bazar.
“There’ll be fine if the mobile courts find any Aedes mosquito breeding grounds at buildings,” said the minister.
Aedes mosquitoes can easily breed in stagnant water. Accumulated water in houses, roofs of private institution, bathroom commode and under-constructing building have to be cleaned.

Responding to a question from reporter, the minister said the city corporations have stocks of mosquito-repellent medicine for one year.

Bangladesh experienced a massive dengue outbreak last year when 101,354 people were hospitalised. Of them, 101,037 made full recovery.

According to official figures, the mosquito-borne disease killed 179 people the country in 2019.
